The whole to the parts ๐ in third grade, students spend three weeks delving into fibers. Where do these materials come from? How are fibers used and transformed into practical applications? The students began at a sheep farm and eventuallt learn to card, spin, and weave wool (using their own handmade spindles). This type of intentional and manual work helps students build their will and their patience. A valuable lesson in the world of same-day Amazon deliveries ๐ฆ. Pictured are felted wool landscapes made by third graders!

Practical activities is a major theme of third grade, but wha does this mean? It means that the third grader, internally asking questions about where they fit as independent beings in the world, is steeped in experiential learning that reflects real-world skills and purpose. The main lesson on shelters quite literally grounds students in the amazing power of human ingenuity as they learn how people across the world protected themselves from the elements with the resources they had. Each student gets to picks a type of shelter to study, build, and present to the rest of the school!
