AAG-GTU TRAVEL AWARDS 2023
The AAG-GTU Travel Award provides support for student members of GTU to attend the national annual meeting of the American Association of Geographers in Denver. Travel awards are available with preference given to geography undergraduate and graduate students who are attending an AAG meeting for the first time and who will serve as an author or co-author on a paper or poster being presented at the meeting.

The 2023 Annual Meeting of the AAG will be virtual and in-person. Award reimbursements to GTU students who attend 2023 meeting for cost of either virtual ($50) or in-person (up to $200) registration.

Analysis finds heat inequities in Southwest

Low-income communities in the southwestern US are exposed to higher temperatures than wealthier ones, according to a recent analysis that reviewed 20 urban areas in the region. The impact of heat falls disproportionately on "those who have the least amount of resources to mitigate it," said Jake Dialesandro, a doctoral student in geography at the University of California, Davis, who led the study. In addition, the study found that predominantly Latino communities tend to experience more heat than predominantly white communities.
