This month, we're pleased to feature Dr. Corrin Boyd, BSc, BVMS(Hons), MVetClinStud, GradDipEd, PhD, MANZCVS, DACVECC - senior lecturer in ECC at The Animal Hospital at Murdoch University.
Dr. Boyd shares insights from his PhD research on the renal effects of synthetic colloid fluids.
His recent clinical study follows earlier experimental work that unexpectedly showed evidence of harm from gelatin, but not starch. This follow-up aimed to determine whether hydroxyethyl starch poses similar risks in real-world settings.
Many thanks to Dr. Boyd for sharing the story behind this important research!

New Blog Post โ Meet the Author
This month, weโre excited to feature Dr. Joon Seo BVSc, MVetMed, DipACVIM (Cardiology), who shares his cardiologistโs perspective on the dynamic nature of systolic anterior motion (SAM) of the mitral valve in cats with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).
Dr. Seo discusses findings from a retrospective study conducted across two centers, which revealed that SAM is a labile process, some cats with HCM spontaneously gained or lost SAM over time. These insights challenge previous assumptions and highlight the importance of longitudinal monitoring in feline cardiology.
We would like to thank Dr. Seo for sharing the story behind his recent research and shedding light on this evolving aspect of feline HCM.
