Opinion writing is such a powerful tool for young writers!

I love teaching writing, especially when a kid finds their voice as a writer. This story was written by one of my seven-year-old students. He captures a special moment: a boba tea date with his dad. He wrote it in his own words, with detail and heart.
When kids realize their everyday experiences are worth writing about, their confidence grows and their writing takes off.

Today we had fun learning the high-frequency word “like”!
We looked closely at the word’s features, practiced spelling it out loud, wrote it in different ways, and used it in a sentence. To make it extra meaningful, I printed a photo of this sweet, Pre-K student and helped her write a sentence about herself using the new word.
Personalized learning makes all the difference, and she was so proud of her work! 💛

Using math manipulatives helps kids develop a concrete understanding of mathematical concepts. Here, a Pre-K homeschool student and I counted these colorful counters and made 5-groups. We extended the activity by saying simple math stories aloud, and then, I wrote the matching equation on the white board.

🎨✏️ In my teaching, I love blending creativity with literacy skills!
For every letter of the alphabet, my home school students and I create a directed drawing to help students connect sounds, symbols, and meaning. Each drawing begins with the letter we're focusing on and transforms into an object that starts with that letter.
It’s a hands-on, multi-sensory way to build handwriting skills, letter recognition, and phonemic awareness.

Many parents have decodable books at home like the Bob Books series, for example. These are great, but they can often frustrate beginning readers with their limited and often awkward word choices. I'm happy to bridge this gap for you. My clients often borrow books from my children's library which contains about 1,000 high-quality leveled books. When they practice reading between tutoring sessions, they make quicker progress.

Decodable books provide students with valuable opportunities to practice new phonics skills and build on previous knowledge.
