Another awesome Friday with the Sustainability Scholars last week, full of activity and getting familiar with Charlotte public transit! Thanks to Catherine Ku**er of Charlotte Area Transit System for sharing a little about her career path and talking with how sustainability is built into the mission at CATS. Thanks as well to Jesse Meer ‘23 and his colleagues in the Global Environmental Group at Bank of America for hosting us at their office, and for passing along insights and advice from the world of corporate finance. Our final stop of the day was a tour of the Innovation Barn which is always a highlight! Thanks to Erica for showing us around and talking about the circular economy, and shout out to Chris Steele of Crown Town Compost (and Crown Town Farm and Crown Town Landscapes) and Lisa Mathews of The Bulb Mobile Market for making cameos and sharing about their awesome work!

Sustainability Scholars had their first week of work with partner organizations last week, and spent Friday together for our first Friday of cohort programming. Huge thank you to for touring us around Camp North End, hope yall enjoy the photos. I failed to get pictures of the great conversations we had while at Camp North End, but another shout out to John C**k ‘89 and Mary Beth Wortham for hosting us at Bolton & Menk for a career conversation, along with Abby Preston ‘16 from the City of Charlotte. Last but certainly not least, thank you for hosting us at the storefront to learn about the organization’s awesome work (supported this summer by scholar Salem Morrow)! Such a fun day, and more to come!

We haven’t posted in a bit, but we’ve been busy! The 2026 Sustainability Scholars program kicked off with summer orientation last week. Highlights included trainings and tours with local leaders and campus partners, some time volunteering with our friends at Catawba Nation, and lots of conversations and time together as a cohort! Stay tuned for more highlights from what will be a busy summer!

That’s a wrap on Earth Month and the semester! 🌱
From kicking off Earth Month on campus to learning at the Carolinas Climate Summit, biking for boba, talking AI & sustainability, removing invasive species, supporting pollinator gardens, making bouquets, and celebrating Earth Day with the Davidson community and more: this month was full of action, learning, and connection.
Thank you to everyone who joined us throughout April and helped make these events possible. We loved seeing our campus community come together for sustainability in so many different ways.
Have a great summer, Wildcats! Keep caring for the planet, wherever you are and remember - Earth Day Every Day! 🌎

Look what the kids (and community!) of the town of Davidson wrote at our Earth Day poster 🥹🌍
“Lizerd” 🦎, “potatos” 🥔, “baby anumls” 🐣, a “baby owl” 🦉, and even “Pizza” 🍕 (with a backwards Z!) — plus so much love for nature, trees, turtles, and foxes!
Safe to say: Davidson’s youngest nature lovers have the biggest hearts. 💚
