David Grier “D.G.” Martin Jr. ’62 was inducted into the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame this Sunday in Southern Pines, NC, in a ceremony that recognized his legacy of supporting authors and fostering important conversations.
D.G., who passed away in December of 2025, was a Green Beret with the U.S. Army’s Special Forces, a lawyer, an author, a newspaper columnist, a radio and television personality and a public servant. He wrote a weekly newspaper column called “One on One” that ran in many papers across the state, hosted a WCHL radio interview program called “Who’s Talking” and interviewed hundreds of authors on UNC-TV’s “North Carolina BookWatch,” taking care to read every single book discussed on the show.
His legacy of integrity and service continues through Davidson College’s D.G. and Harriet Wall Martin Institute for Public Good.
