For the last year, Meghan DuPuy '28 has developed a choral program for the Davidson College Chamber Singers, a small project-focused ensemble of 14 people, to perform on an international tour in Germany this summer. Her program was born out of funding from the Halle Foundation, an organization with a mission to foster connection and cultural exchange between Germans and Americans. Meghan picked the theme and music that makes up this program, called "Kein schöner Land," or "no land more lovely," a phrase that comes from an original German folk song they will perform. The program as a whole explores the disconnection and polarization felt as a result of growing political and social divides, with hopes that it can inspire us all to seek reconnection with each other in these complicated times.

Meghan is grateful to have had the opportunity to develop this program - a responsibility almost always reserved for the choir director - especially considering its relevance to our current lived experience. Music is a language that we can all appreciate, and she cannot wait to bring this incredibly important program to life with the Davidson College Choirs Chamber Singers. They will be on tour from June 12-23 in Germany and will perform one final concert in Davidson in February. Be sure to follow their tour on Facebook and Instagram!

🎟️ SOLD OUT! 🎟️

We are thrilled to share that Saturday’s Rodgers & Hammerstein concert is officially sold out (only standing room tickets remain)! If you’ve been thinking about joining us, now is the moment.

To get you excited, here are a few quick (and pretty amazing) facts about the legendary duo behind this music:

✨ Their first collaboration, Oklahoma! (1943), helped define the “musical play,” where music, dance, and story are fully integrated, not just entertainment, but storytelling. Their work is unmatched. Collectively, their musicals have earned Tony, Oscar, Grammy, Emmy, and even Pulitzer Prizes.

🎭 They launched the “Golden Age” of musical theater. Shows like Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music became some of the most influential works in the 20th century.

🎶 They tackled real issues. Beyond the beautiful melodies, their shows explored themes like racism, classism, and social justice, groundbreaking for their time and still resonant today.

We'll be preparing until we see you on Saturday, setting up the Duke, bringing together the orchestra with the choirs, and more. It’s going to be a full house and a special evening.

Davidson College Chamber Singers performed at the Halle Foundation Haus this afternoon in Atlanta, Georgia as a preview and thank you for the generous funding we received for our upcoming tour to Germany. It was a beautiful afternoon of creative work, culminating a presentation with sophomore and alto Meghan DuPuy's choral program, which she curated last summer as part of a Davidson Research Initiative. Programs included works by Miskinis, Kukuck, Dawson, Poulenc, Dove, and Buchenberg.

Claus Halle was an international business executive and philanthropist. Born in Schwelm, Germany in 1927, Mr. Halle was conscripted as a young teen into the German army during the latter part of World War II and surrendered to the American forces in 1945. Following his release, he began a remarkable career with The Coca-Cola Company as a truck deliveryman in Essen, Germany. Over the next 45 years, he rose to the most senior ranks of the company, including service as President of Coca-Cola Germany, President of Coca-Cola Europe and, ultimately, Senior Executive Vice President of The Coca-Cola Company and President of Coca-Cola International. In 1986, Mr. Halle created The Halle Foundation as a vehicle for supporting and strengthening the relationship between the United States and Germany for the long term. The mission of The Halle Foundation is to promote understanding, knowledge, and friendship between the people of Germany, as seen in its European context, and those of the United States. In furtherance of this mission, the Foundation supports, primarily through grantmaking, initiatives and activities in the fields of education, culture, science, technology, language, scholarship, and international relations.

Thank you, Halle Foundation.
