You know that sleepy feeling you feel after a big Thanksgiving meal? That's because turkey and other poultry contain higher amounts of the amino acid tryptophan. The tryptophan in the bloodstream is converted to serotonin, which results in that classic lethargic feeling.

Chemistry Fun Fact: The orange leaves on this tree in autumn are the result of carotenoids, which become more apparent as chlorophyll is broken down due to less sunlight during the fall. Carotenoids produce these bright colors because of all the conjugated alkenes within them.
