This summer, senior Emma Walsh had the privilege of attending Songfest, a prestigious Young Artist program under the direction of Grant Knox at Furman University. Songfest is an intensive for singers and pianists to work together on masterclasses, concerts, and coachings while examining poetry, diction, and performance possibilities with professional artists. Over the course of three weeks, Emma worked alongside Martin Katz, Jamie Barton, Adriana Zabala, Tom Cipullo, and more, attending and singing in masterclasses and concerts that spanned Nordic and Afrikaans repertoire to American folk songs and the works of Tom Cipullo. She eagerly performed in multiple concerts, such as Songs of Resilience, a concert of songs and spirituals curated by Tyrese Byrd; an Afrikaans art song lecture recital curated by Bronwen Forbay, an expert in Afrikaans; and American Tune, a commemoration of pivotal milestones in our nation's history through the lens of American song, curated by Adriana Zabala. She was overwhelmed by the support and kindness of everyone she worked with in this program and feel so grateful to be part of such a special group of upcoming artists. Emma states this opportunity would not have been possible without the generous support of the Davidson College Music Department; their investment in her artistry and development is ever meaningful.

For the final day of the Davidson College Chamber Singers 2026 Germany tour, they attended the Schloss Balmoral Workshop "Alchemy and Heimat" where each artist did a presentation/workshop for the other artists. Just after lunch, it was the Chamber Singers's turn to tie together singing, alchemy, and Heimat (home, homeland, or native country). The students did a fantastic job and are now rewarded with a relaxing evening at Emser Therme.

Though our time in Germany has come to an end, the memories and friendships will last a lifetime. From Paderborn, to Cologne, to Koblenz, to Bad Ems, and all places between, the tour was an overwhelming success with building upon our relationship with Deutschland. Vielen Dank für alles! 🇩🇪🇺🇸🎼🎶❤️

The Davidson College Chamber Singers performed a spectacular concert at the Marble Hall at Bad Ems today. We are beyond proud of the work they put in to get here and cannot thank our friends at Universität Koblenz enough for their friendship and support throughout the tour. Tomorrow, the choir travels back to Bad Ems for a very special final day of tour at the Schloss Balmoral Workshop. More to come!

The Davidson College Chamber Singers are hard at work preparing for their final concert this afternoon in the Marble Hall at Bad Ems. Aside from its beauty, the Marble Hall has also hosted musicians such as Jacques Offenbach, Clara Schumann, Jenny Lind, Carl Maria von Weber, and others.

Our fourth day in Koblenz started with a ride on the scenic cable cars to visit Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. The second largest fortress in Europe, it stands 118 meters above the Rhine and provides stunning views of Koblenz and the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. The Davidson College Chamber Singers get a little downtime this afternoon, but are soon back at it this evening with their dress rehearsal for tomorrow's concert! Schönen Tag noch! 🚠🏞️🏰📸

This morning, we gathered for a wonderful river cruise on the Rhine that delivered breathtaking views of Koblenz and up river. We saw several castles along the way, enjoyed a round of trivia, but best of all had a couple hours to be social. This afternoon and evening are full of rehearsals with Universität Koblenz as the Davidson College Chamber Singers prepare for Saturday's UniMus Festival Concert. Genieße deinen Tag!

Today started with an independent morning to explore Koblenz. After lunch, the Davidson College Chamber Singers rehearsed in the chapel of the Peter Friedhofen Monastery. After dinner, the choir and community were treated to Dr. Tomasz Robak's incredible Roaring Organ Recital in St. Kastor Koblenz. The day ended with a wonderful tour and wine tasting at the Deinhard Sekt Keller Museum which of course led to another lovely impromptu concert! What made this day even more special was that we spent it with our friends from Universität Koblenz! We cannot wait to see what tomorrow brings!
