This morning, we gathered for a wonderful river cruise on the Rhine that delivered breathtaking views of Koblenz and up river. We saw several castles along the way, enjoyed a round of trivia, but best of all had a couple hours to be social. This afternoon and evening are full of rehearsals with Universität Koblenz as the Davidson College Chamber Singers prepare for Saturday's UniMus Festival Concert. Genieße deinen Tag!

Today started with an independent morning to explore Koblenz. After lunch, the Davidson College Chamber Singers rehearsed in the chapel of the Peter Friedhofen Monastery. After dinner, the choir and community were treated to Dr. Tomasz Robak's incredible Roaring Organ Recital in St. Kastor Koblenz. The day ended with a wonderful tour and wine tasting at the Deinhard Sekt Keller Museum which of course led to another lovely impromptu concert! What made this day even more special was that we spent it with our friends from Universität Koblenz! We cannot wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Today was the Davidson College Chamber Singers's first day in Koblenz. The day started with a free morning, followed by a terrific walking tour of the city guided by Dr. Scott Denham. We then traveled to Universität Koblenz to meet up with their amazing choir and director, Christian Jeub. The choirs joined together over dinner and were tasked with four talking rounds, which built a lasting rapport.
After dinner, they had a joint rehearsal to work on the songs they will be performing together at Saturday's UniMus festival Concert. The Chamber Singers ended the evening with a rehearsal with acclaimed Swiss cellist, Yoël Cantori. What... a... day... 🎼🎶❤️🇩🇪🇺🇸

After a magnificent couple of days in Paderborn, the Davidson College Chamber Singers took a beautiful train ride south to Cologne where we took a tour of the Kolumba Museum and had impromptu performances in the 'Madonna in the Ruins' chapel and amongst the church ruins from the devastation of World War II.
After a delicious meal of bratwurst "by the meter" and schnitzel, the choir visited the magnificent Cologne Cathedral and enjoyed some free time in the city. Tonight we arrive at Koblenz!

We ended our first full day in Germany with a wonderful concert of Haydn music performed by the Philharmonische Gesellschaft Paderborn at the Kaiserpfalzof. Director Thomas Berning and the musicians put on a world-class performance and we are so very thankful to have been invited. After the concert, we headed to Feur & Flamme with the Paderborn Kammerchor for a never ending parade of Flammkuchen (German pizza). What... a... day! 🎶🎻🍕🍻💕

Earlier this afternoon, the Chamber Singers performed their first concert of the tour for a standing-room-only crowd at the Gaukirche Paderborn. Remarks at the start of the concert were given in English by our director Renata Dworak Berlin, and in German by Scott Denham, Dana Professor of German Studies at Davidson College.
This was a experience beyond words for everyone involved and we are so very thankful to Thomas Berning for helping draw such a large audience. It's only our first full day in Germany, and we are already amazed by the kindness and warm welcomes. We cannot wait to share more with you and are eternally grateful to The Halle Foundation and their support of this tour.

The Davidson College Chamber Singers started off their morning attending a traditional Catholic mass at the Paderborn Cathedral and heard some wonderful music. After mass, they got a tour with the music director, Thomas Berning, and met his Kammerchor (Chamber Choir) for a meet and greet/impromptu back-and-forth concert featuring both choirs. It was a true joy to witness these young musicians come together and make beautiful music! 🎼🎶💕 More to come from our busy first day!
