Meet Andi Rose, our Golden Retriever therapy dog, hard at work! 🐾
Andi is learning a brand-new command here at Davidson Center: “lay.” On cue, she gently drapes herself across a student’s lap to provide deep pressure therapy. That calming, steady weight can help students feel grounded, settle their bodies, and get ready to focus and learn.
She’s still in training, but as you can see, she’s already a natural. (We think she might be enjoying this assignment just a little bit. 💛)
At Davidson Center, we believe learning happens best when students feel safe, calm, and supported, and sometimes that support comes with four paws and a wagging tail.

Little hands, big learning! ✋📚

One of our preschoolers spent the time working at Davidson Center with an Orton-Gillingham trained tutor, and it was learning at its best: hands-on, multisensory, and full of joy.

Using real, rich literature as our guide, we worked on:
📖 Rhyming – hearing and playing with sounds that match
👉 Text direction – tracking print left to right, top to bottom
🟣 Pounding sounds in playdough – one sound, one pound!
👂 Listening comprehension – talking about the story and what it means

Tracing in sand and squishing playdough also build the fine motor strength little hands need for writing. When kids touch, move, see, and hear what they're learning, it sticks.

Early literacy doesn't have to mean worksheets. It can look a lot like play. 💛
