Mother’s Day always reminds me of the woman who wasn’t sure she’d ever get to be a mother—let alone start a school!

Becoming a mom was such a hero’s journey for me, one that guided me to Acton and continues to fuel my passion for empowering young learners to embrace their own calls to adventure.

I was recently asked to share my story with one of the women who carried me through it. We talk about it all—loss, life, and Acton.

Four years ago we found an educational philosophy we couldn’t shake. When we moved to Davidson, there was no way we were leaving it behind!

We were sad, but not shocked, to see the story about a recent Gallup survey of over 2,000 middle and high schoolers, which found that students are “losing interest in school.” Between 2023 and 2024, students enrolled in traditional K-12 schools reported feeling less challenged and finding the subject matter less interesting. Less than half said that they felt like they got to do what they do best when at school.

These statistics were stark reminders of why we are so grateful to be launching Acton Academy Davidson. By turning education upside down, we’re flipping it right side up for our family and our community!

At Acton, every child is a genius on a hero’s journey to discover their passion and purpose that will change the world! There is time and space for intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and self-discovery. Learners are challenged in the best of ways, by their own thirst for knowledge. They get to pursue their interests and spend time every day honing the things they’re best at!
