We are now ten days away from the departure date for ACJS in Kansas City, MO. Please contact the Executive Board if you're planning to attend, or might attend. Because we've been able to secure some money from fundraising, the rental car and gas money can be covered out of the Honor Society's funds and we can carpool down to the conference.

Additionally, you can recoup $200 for one conference if you are a graduate student. Please contact Kevin for details. All you need to do is keep your receipt for the hotel.

The conference lasts Tuesday through Friday, 21-24 March, so we will be driving to Kansas City on Monday and returning Friday.

We'll follow a similar format for the Midwest Sociological Society, which will last from Thursday through Sunday, 30 March – 2 April.

Also, if you're interested in networking and making business cards for the event based on your membership in ΑΦΣ, please let us know and we will be happy to help based on designs used by prior members.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for helping out with Trivia Night, and to single out a few in particular!

Firstly, thank you to everyone who attended. We made a good sum of money and it will help us offset the rental car costs associated with driving to Kansas City, MO for the annual ACJS meeting!

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks in particular to Ms. Voelkers, without whom no Trivia Night would have taken place this year or last year. She's been our greatest asset throughout the process and done so much good for our honor society. It was our honor to present her with a small token of our gratitude!

Additionally, we'd like to thank Team 5, the winners of Trivia Night! The powerhouse team edged out Team 4 in the final round to take home the prize. In addition to being trivia champions, they revealed themselves to be profoundly generous: they returned the prize money to support the honor society's activities. Thank you so much!

Finally, I'd like to personally thank my fellow Executive Board members. Without them, we wouldn't have much of an honor society to participate in. They're the engine of our organization, and I'm grateful to have their support.

Looking at the upcoming conferences, I think we're in for a great time!

Important announcement for students who would like to attend the Midwest Sociology Society (MSS) annual meeting in Milwaukee, WI this year! The conference is taking place from 30 March through 2 April. Since it's not in Chicago this year, I've changed my mind about attending the entire conference and will encourage everyone else to attend if you are interested in the latest research in the field of sociology. Like the ACJS, these annual meetings comprise roundtables, presentations, and other interactive events where you can engage with researchers, network, and learn what is being accomplished in the field of sociology!

The links are below. They include everything you will need to attend the conference. If you register online, the price for a year in the MSS is $50. Registration is open for the next couple of weeks, so you can save money ($20) by registering early!

The MSS is also hosting several events that might interest you, including tours and a trivia night. I've included a link describing the tours. They include a tour of the sustainable urban farm in Milwaukee, a pub crawl, and a tour of the Milwaukee Art Museum.

Finally, I've attached a link for the conference hotel below, but don't take this as a requirement. There may be nearby hotels with more competitive prices. If you're interested in staying at the Hilton using their discounted conference rate, please use the below link.

If you're interested in attending, please let the executive board know as soon as possible so we can get a headcount! Also, please do start the process to register and organize your attendance to save money!

This is a great opportunity for those who are interested in sociology. We highly encourage attendance so you can get the most out of what our field has to offer!

We recently received a generous offer from the Gainesville, FL police department asking for certified and non-certified law enforcement candidates to apply for positions in their department. Gainesville is the location of the University of Florida.

Most applicants from St. Ambrose will likely be non-certified, which means that you have no current law enforcement certification, and need sponsorship to the Florida Police Academy.

To qualify as being certified you must have either military or police law enforcement experience totaling at least two years, or 18 months with the State of Florida.

I've attached the link to apply here. Non-certified applicants must apply by March 12th, and test on April 10-12th!

The application must contain a background data packet, background waiver, and physician recommendation forms. If you are interested and would like more information, then please let me know and I can give you a point of contact at the Gainesville PD!

Hello everyone, and welcome back to St. Ambrose for the spring semester! We hope that everyone had a great break, and time to celebrate the holidays with your families.

As the semester begins, we'd like to start by disseminating some information from ACJS about scholarships available through our honor society.

I've attached a link to the .pdf file with instructions here. More to follow!

Here's a message for those of you who are planning to participate in the Midwest Sociological Society (MSS) conference this April. It's in Chicago, so we usually just drive out in the morning and drive home in the evening, and split the expenses.

If you need help getting links for a submission, please let me know in the comments and I'll forward it to you.

Happy holidays!
