What are the monsters that keep us up at night—and what helps us turn on the light? 💡

⭐ Visual artists aged 18 and older and residing within 250 miles of the Quad Cities are invited to submit up to two original works for a $15 fee in any visual art medium that pertain to the theme of “monsters,” both literal and figurative, and the ways we confront, cope with, and move through them for a juried, group exhibition in our Rock Island Gallery from October 9 - December 4, 2026.

👉 Deadline for submission is September 20. Learn more and apply at quadcityarts.com/monster-under-my-bed

Through this exhibition, Quad City Arts invites artists to explore the many forms our “monsters” can take and the ways creativity can help us give shape to experiences that are difficult to put into words. 🎨

We are excited to announce a new adventure at the Hearst Center - The Gary Kelley Artist-In-Residence! This opportunity is a twelve-month studio residency at the Hearst Center, established in honor of the legacy of Gary Kelley, Cedar Falls' most celebrated visual artist and longtime champion of the Hearst Center, by giving artist dedicated space, time, and support to develop a body of original two-dimensional work!

We ❤️ our guy, GK! Our collaborator for many years & our supportive friend - always. This one means a lot to us & we will continue to honor him, his talent & humanity forever.

➡️Applications open August 15, 2026, and will be accepted through September 18, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. CST. One artist will be selected, with the announcement made to the public in October 2026. Official press release, additional rules, application process & more info available via thehearst.org/garykelleyartistinresidence.

This residency has been made possible by the Friends of the Hearst along with the support of the Kelley family, through the establishment of the Gary Kelley Artist-In-Residence Endowment Fund with the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa. This permanent endowment fund is invested and grows over time, providing a long-term, stable source of income to support this newly launched residency program, while creating opportunities for artists in northeast Iowa. Learn how you can support & fund this program via cfneia.org/donations/garykelleyhearstendowment/

📧Questions about the residency may be directed to Cory Hurless, Cultural Programs Supervisor, at [email protected]
