I have learned so much from Kenzie, it’s taken me so long to come up with the words for this birth story to post because I know how sappy and long this post would have to be to truly explain it all accurately.
From the day I met her and Susan McLoone for queso and margs, I knew I wanted to be a part of the birth work magic they are creating with the love and support they poured into the world. I learned not only how to be a better doula, but to be more patient, more graceful and more generous.
To learn how to be a better doula from her, and then turn around and get to be HER doula was such an honor and gift.
The selflessness it took to navigate through this surrogacy journey, the genuine care and love she put into it every step of the way, the heartache through the struggles and the excitement for Mary and Paul to welcome their baby into the world was not only admirable and inspirational— it’s something I will never forget.
She labored through the early morning before she called me to come over. By the time I got there, she was already working through each contraction intuitively — she knew what to do and did it so gracefully.
Throughout the morning, in the quiet comfort of her safe space with her husband by her side and birth team close by, each contraction led to one incredible moment where she called out for Mary and birthed Cade in the pool and right into his mother’s arms. A moment that was longed for and dreamed about, coming to fruition. They leaned into each other for that long, beautiful moment with this sweet baby between them — a moment of relief and joy.
I am still in awe of the sacrifice, the selflessness, the care and love that went into this sweet baby boy’s birth.
I’m in awe of Kenzie and her strength, resilience and grace.
I am grateful to have been her doula for this birth.
I am grateful to work alongside her, caring for moms and their babes.
I am grateful to continue learning from her.
I am grateful for her friendship.
Also grateful for top notch birth teamwork with Sarah Moore, LCPM, LM CPM, BSM 💛🙌🏼
You are so very loved, Cade 💙
