Construction should be wrapped up by Monday in front of the school! 🐾🚧🦺

School is starting back up next week, and the construction season is still going strong. As traffic picks up around our campuses, please take a moment to be aware of the following short-term construction sites near our schools. Your extra caution helps keep our students, staff, and families safe.

- Hayes Elementary, work on S Concord should wrap up before the first day!
- McKinley Elementary, work on Middle Rd will wrap up by Friday!
- Smart Middle School, work on 4th Street will be ongoing for a bit at Cedar.
- Sudlow Middle School, reconstruction of Pleasant St between Esplanade and Bridge will begin August 31. For those traveling through the area, the intersection of Pleasant and Bridge will not be impacted.
- Truman Elementary, travel will change to one lane in each direction on Pine between 53rd and 59th Streets. Work is expected to wrap up the first week of September.

🎒 We hope you can join us for Unpack Your Backpack on Thursday, August 20th, from 4:00–5:30pm! ! Come meet your student’s teachers, visit their classroom, and get ready for the new school year! 📚✏️ If your student needs school supplies, please let us know.

💇‍♀️ We’ll also have 6 volunteer stylists providing FREE haircuts for students! Signups begin at 4:00 and are first come, first served, with the last spot at 5:20.

🐾 Our new United Way worker, Erik Whitcomb, will be joining us with a sweet treat for families, so be sure to stop by and say hello!

The free summer meal program has been extended at Hayes until July 31st! 🍎🥪🧃

📣🍎We’ve got great news! Our summer meal site at Hayes is staying open for lunch through July 31 ! 🙌 Meals will be served in front of the splash pad from 10:50-11:10.

📚 Books on the Blacktop is tomorrow, June 18, at Hayes Elementary!

Stop by between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. to explore books, sign up for a library card, learn about summer reading prizes, and enjoy a popsicle with the Davenport Public Library's Outreach Wheeled Library (OWL).

Plus, free summer lunch will be available during the event from 10:50–11:10 a.m.

Our final monthly meeting of the school year was full of celebrations! 🐾💙

We recognized our May Students of the Month for demonstrating respect, responsibility, safety, and kindness. Thank you to the QC Morning Optimist Club for helping us celebrate these outstanding Bulldogs each month.

We also celebrated our fourth quarter attendance prize winners, thanks to the The Elks Club for their support throughout the year.

Students were recognized for their growth in aReading, CBM Words Correct Per Minute, and Math MAP, and we celebrated our perfect attendance winners for the entire school year. Their hard work and dedication truly paid off!

We honored our retirees, Mrs. Lampe, Mrs. Rip, and Mrs. Vincent—thank you for so many years of dedication to DCSD and Hayes!

We also recognized Growing Excellence Award recipients. The Growing Excellence Award recognizes staff members, community partners, families, and supporters who go above and beyond to make a positive impact on Hayes and help our students, staff, and school community thrive. Recipients: Colleen Kahley, Lisa Lampe, Karen Lampe, Beth Ripslinger, Noel Hansen, Sara Bourassa-Dorsett, Jessica Van Meter, Deb Curren, Abbi Lievens, Becky Vincent, Stephanie Gaskins, the Ray Family honoring Corrinne Ray, Connie Hammell, West Kimberly Wal-Mart, and Jeff's Car Corner.

What a great way to wrap up an amazing year at Hayes! 💙🐾

🎓🐾 Yesterday, we celebrated some big milestones at Hayes!

Our 5th graders were recognized as they prepare for junior high, and we also celebrated our kindergarten and preschool students as they get ready for their next adventure.

We don't have photos from the kindergarten or preschool celebrations, so if families have pictures they'd like to share, feel free to add them in the comments!

Congratulations to all of our graduates—we're so proud of our Bulldogs! 💙💛
