Can we normalize the fact that growth sometimes feels like an absolute mess? 😅
Last week was a rollercoaster.
I opened one email and got rejected from something I really wanted.
Opened another and found out I was awarded a $10,000 grant for my business.
At the same time, my house was under renovation, there was dust everywhere, I was sleeping on the couch because my allergies were so bad, and honestly… I just kept thinking: this is what the middle of growth looks like.
Messy.
Uncomfortable.
Exciting.
Disappointing.
Hopeful.
All at once.
And it reminded me so much of the work my clients do when they’re building confidence and learning to speak up. Before someone feels polished or confident, there’s usually a season where they feel awkward, unsure, and stretched outside their comfort zone.
That part doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It usually means you’re growing.
So if you’re in your own messy middle right now - keep going. The hard days and the good days can exist at the same time. 💛

We’re wired for stories. Long before written language, storytelling was how humans shared wisdom, culture, and connection. And in today’s world, where people process the equivalent of 16 movies worth of information every day, stories matter more than ever.
Data may inform, but stories make people remember.
Recently, I worked with a group of entrepreneurs preparing to pitch their businesses. The polished, data-heavy pitches were impressive… but the stories? Those were the moments people connected with and remembered.
One participant almost didn’t share the personal story behind her business because she wasn’t sure it was “appropriate.” But the second she did, everything clicked. Her audience finally understood not just what she did, but why it mattered.
That’s the power of storytelling:
✨ It creates connection
✨ It makes your message memorable
✨ It turns information into impact
A great story doesn’t replace your message. It IS the message.

Every Wednesday, we’ve shared a little inspiration with you. Simple affirmations to remind you that meaningful communication isn’t about sounding perfect. It’s about creating connection.
And if there’s one thing this series has come back to again and again, it’s that your voice was never meant to be filtered into something smaller, safer, or more acceptable. It was always meant to be yours.
Not polished into perfection. Or reshaped for approval. And definitely not held back until it feels “just right.”
Authenticity isn’t something you earn. It’s something you choose... over and over again.
In our experience, the most impactful communicators aren’t the ones who say everything flawlessly. They’re the ones who show up fully, who speak with honesty, and who trust that who they are is enough to create connection.
So as we close out this series, let this be the reminder you carry with you - into every room, every conversation, and every opportunity to use your voice:
You don’t need to become someone else to be heard.
You just need to show up as yourself.
Boldly. Confidently. Unapologetically.
✨ Affirmation: I will wear my authenticity boldly, like a little black dress (or power suit) that never goes out of style.

It’s easy to assume that our voice needs more. More experience, more credentials, more time... before it’s worth sharing. So we hold back, waiting until we feel more certain, more polished, more “ready.”
Connection doesn’t come from having all the answers. It comes from being willing to share what you’ve actually lived, learned, and seen for yourself.
Your perspective isn’t meant to sound like anyone else’s. It’s shaped by your experiences, your challenges, your growth, and the moments that have stayed with you. That’s what makes it relatable.
When you speak from lived experience, there’s a level of honesty that people can feel. It’s not forced, it’s not overthought. Simply put, it's just true. And that’s what people connect with.
So instead of questioning whether your voice is “enough,” start from a different place. Trust that what you’ve experienced has value, and let that be the foundation of what you share.
✨ Affirmation: I will trust my perspective and speak from lived experience.

In a world where it’s easy to look for validation before we speak, many of us find ourselves shaping our words around what will be most accepted, most liked, or most approved of. We pause, we filter, and we adjust… not always because it’s true to us, but because it feels safer.
But when approval becomes the focus, our message can start to lose its meaning. It becomes less about what we genuinely want to say and more about how it will be received. And that’s where connection begins to fade.
People don’t connect with perfectly curated words. They connect with honesty, with intention, and with messages that are rooted in something real. When you speak from a place of purpose, your words carry more clarity and more impact because they’re aligned with what actually matters to you.
So take a moment before you speak and check in with yourself. Not “Will they like this?” but “Is this true to what I want to share?” Trust that your message doesn’t need approval to be valuable. It just needs to be real.
✨ Affirmation: I will let purpose, not approval, shape my message.

What if you trusted your voice more?
Studies show that up to 74% of people experience fear around public speaking, and that hesitation often starts young. Without chances to practice speaking up, many people learn to hold back instead of sharing their ideas.
We saw the power of using your voice early at our Events last year when we partnered with & . Our lineup of speakers included high school students who took the stage and shared their stories with honesty and courage. They didn’t wait until they felt ready… they simply showed up as themselves.
It was a reminder that confidence isn’t something you wait for. It’s something you build on consistently, and with practice.
And the good news is it’s never too late to start. If you didn’t have those opportunities growing up, it doesn’t mean you missed your chance. It is never too late to develop these skills. Learning how to communicate authentically, share your story, and speak with confidence is something you can start at any point, and the impact is immediate.
..And if the idea of stepping onto a stage has been on your mind, we have something exciting coming back.... Drop the Mic Night officially returns June 18th!
Applications will be accepted now through April 17th, so dont wait! Head to speacsuccess.com/dropthemic, and be sure to follow us on social for updates!

Somewhere along the way, many of us were taught to tone it down.
To be more measured… more polished… more “professional.”
But in doing that, we often quiet the very thing that makes people pay attention -> our passion.
Because passion isn’t polished. Passion is felt.
It shows up in the way your voice changes when something matters to you, or in the stories you tell without overthinking. It's in the moments when you stop trying to sound right and start speaking from what’s real.
That’s what people connect to.
Not perfection… but presence. Not any rehearsed words or scripting… but genuine energy.
So today, instead of asking “Am I saying this the right way?” Try asking, “Does what I'm saying actually light me up?”
Because when you lead from that place, your message lands differently. It feels human. It feels honest. It creates connection.
✨ Affirmation: I will lead with passion, allowing what lights me up to guide how I communicate.
