Great job, ladies!

The Buccaneer is BACK and better than ever!

Our awesome MCA art students have officially finished restoring our Buccaneer statue, and he’s making his grand return to the football field this Friday for our first home game of the year!

We hope his fresh new look gives our football players all the BUCCANEER SPIRIT they need to bring home a WIN this week and all season long! 💪🏴‍☠️

A huge THANK YOU for trusting our amazing art students with the restoration of this special piece of MCA tradition. They put so much time, talent, and care into bringing our Buccaneer back to life, and we couldn’t be prouder of the finished result!

Now there’s only one thing left to say… GO BUCS! 🏴‍☠️🏈

Meet Mrs. Katie O’Neal, McIntosh County Middle School’s Staff Person of the Year!

MCMS Principal Mrs. Robinson shared that, even before stepping into her role, she was told Mrs. O’Neal was the backbone of the school—and every day since has confirmed it.

With wisdom, patience, and care, Mrs. O’Neal keeps school operations running smoothly and always seems to have the answer—or the needed item tucked inside her legendary “magical drawer,” which holds everything from phone chargers to sewing kits!

Beloved by students and staff, Mrs. O’Neal is a dependable resource, valued colleague, and even Mrs. Robinson’s personal book recommender.

Meet Mrs. Loretta Pressley, Todd-Grant Elementary’s Employee of the Year!

As a media center paraprofessional, Mrs. Pressley helps create meaningful learning experiences for students, but her impact reaches far beyond the media center. Whether she is in the cafeteria, the hallways, or anywhere in between, she makes everyone around her feel seen and cared for.

Kind, patient, and always willing to listen, Mrs. Pressley begins each day by greeting students and staff with a smile. TGE Principal, Mr. Mitchell, shared that she is known for offering hugs and words of encouragement as everyone enters Todd-Grant each morning.

Last week, we shared more about what Georgia Milestones achievement levels mean. This week, we want to take the next step: what do we do with that information?

Student results help us see where learning is strong and where additional support may be needed. From there, the work becomes intentional.

Across McIntosh County Schools, teachers are strengthening the connection between what students are expected to learn, how we know when they’ve learned it, and the instruction that helps them get there.

This approach is often called backward design. In parent-friendly terms, it simply means we begin with the destination in mind.

When learning goals, instruction, and assessment are aligned, teachers are better able to respond to what students need next—whether that means moving forward, revisiting a skill, or providing additional support.

Milestones give us one piece of the picture. What matters next is how we respond.

Our final spotlight is on McIntosh County Academy - MCA Teacher of the Year, Dr. Amanda Matheson!✨

Dr. Amanda Matheson exemplifies excellence in education through her unwavering dedication to her students and the McIntosh County Academy community. As her department lead, Dr. Matheson provides thoughtful guidance, supports her colleagues, and helps strengthen instruction across her team.
