Joey Johnson's experiences at Centre ignited a passion for outdoor education and studying abroad.

The 2024 graduate is pursuing both through the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Program, sponsored by the European Union. Over the next couple of years, he will study at multiple universities across Europe β€” and potentially other continents β€” to obtain his master’s degree in educational policy and global development.

Building on multiple experiences studying away and abroad as a Centre student along with a Fulbright assignment in Bulgaria after graduation, Joey continues to embrace the adventure of immersive learning.

Three Centre College students spent the summer interning at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic, gaining hands-on clinical research and forensic pathology experience most undergraduates only dream of having.

Junior Rejoice Madembo conducted patient interviews and shadowed doctors in Mayo's CRISP research program. Senior Kimberly Whitmore and Junior Mae Hamilton assisted in the medical examiner's office, working closely with pathologists, death investigators and law enforcement.

A Centre intern is bringing arts education to thousands of young people this summer, spending her time with nonprofit Loop It Up in Savannah, Georgia.

Evelyn Cotthoff, class of 2027, helped prepare curriculum for the upcoming school year and supported the organization's expansion into new office spaces. But most of her summer was spent in the field β€” traveling to summer schools and youth programs across Chatham County to teach art, gardening and mindfulness, building relationships with the same students and staff week after week.

She's part of Centre's SHECP Internship Program, which pairs students with organizations working to strengthen underserved communities, and she looks forward to carrying those lessons back to campus this fall.

Thirty-five high school students from Louisville recently spent a day on Centre's campus kicking off a semester-long study of one of the most consequential dissents in Supreme Court history, written by Centre alumnus Justice John Marshall Harlan.

The Supreme Court and My Hometown is an immersive, in-person civics education program for high school students designed to make the U.S. Supreme Court, its history and its decisions more accessible.

Centre faculty and staff led sessions on the Progressive Era and the 14th Amendment, and a panel of local attorneys, including two Centre alumni, gave students a firsthand look at what practicing law actually looks like in Kentucky.
