Stony Mill Elementary Named National Beta School of Merit

We are proud to announce that Stony Mill Elementary is a 2025-2026 National Beta School of Merit. The school earned this recognition by offering National Beta to all eligible grades on their campus.

The National Beta School of Merit award is given to honor a club’s dedication and commitment to academic excellence. To achieve this prestigious honor, a school must include members from all eligible grade levels in their Beta club. This year 6,103 clubs across the country received this award.
In a congratulatory letter to the school, Bobby Hart, CEO said “Thank you for your continued support of National Beta and commitment to developing future leaders!”

We are so proud of our 24 Beta students and their families who sacrificed time and money to prepare and travel to Nashville for the National Beta Convention. Our students worked so hard and represented our school well in 12 different competitions. They are truly wired for success. Thank you very much to the Womack Foundation for helping us go to Nationals with their generous grant. Our living literature team placed 10th for Because of Winn Dixie. Now to prepare these Legends in the Making for State Convention in February. We cannot wait to see all they will continue to accomplish.

Some of our Beta students were able to volunteer to help plant the Monarch Butterfly Way Station at Stony Mill. They planted native plants to provide food for Monarchs as they make their way across the continent during migration.

The Dan River Basin Association (DRBA) provided the plants, compost, a CoCoRaS precipitation gauge, and directions for the planting project.

We are excited for the learning opportunities this garden will provide for all of our students.
