Today marks the 36th anniversary of the line-of-duty deaths of Firefighter Robert T. Crutchfield III and Firefighter Vernon Dennis Deshazar, who made the ultimate sacrifice on January 28, 1990, while battling a house fire on Guilford Street in Danville.
Thirty-six years later, their courage, dedication, and selfless service continue to be remembered. Their loss forever changed our department, our brotherhood, and our community.
On behalf of the Danville Professional Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 2532, we honor their lives, their service, and their sacrifice. We stand in remembrance with their families and reaffirm that they will never be forgotten.

This is a critical issue that affects retirees and future retirees. It takes about 60 seconds to fill out the information and the impact will last a lifetime.

This going to be long but it is critical you take action:We have been stolen from for FOUR DECADES.
The opportunity to correct an injustice, and restore your, full Social Security Benefit is at stake. There are only 2 steps left to right the wrong; Pass the Senate and the President sign it.
We need you to help you, and take action to repeal a law that singles out you and your family.
Like you, and many others, I worked another job before I was hired by the Danville Fire Department. While employed in the fire department, I worked side jobs. Like you, I will not receive the full amount of my Social Security Benefit, nor will our families if we predecease them. Unless the WEP-GPO is repealed and we are close; closer than we have been in 40 years.
You can help get this law repealed! Please take the action noted below. It only takes a few moments and could mean $$$$thousands of your dollars being restored in your Social Security Benefits.

Subject: WEP/GPO Final Efforts
Please see the below message from the IAFF. We are very close to achieving a historic removal of this program which steals from pension benefits of our brothers and sisters across the country.
You may have already received this, but we wanted to ensure it gets to as many union leaders as possible.
********
Brothers and Sisters,
Today, Senator Schumer called for a cloture vote on Monday, December 16th. We must keep the pressure on as we are close to eliminating the unjust Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). The IAFF remains steadfast in advocating for the financial fairness retirees deserve.
With your help, our outreach has been extremely effective. We are again asking for your assistance as this is going to be tight. Please reach out to your membership, ask them to contact their Senators and again urge them to vote YES on Cloture, and YES on the passage of the bill.
Members can:
1. Utilize the IAFF Advocacy Page
Choose the link that says VOTE yes on Cloture and Final passage of the Social Security Act located here: https://www.iaff.org/advocacy-center/
This tool will send an automated email to members’ own Senators.
Or they can contact their Senator’s office by phone. Below is a sample talking point:
"Hello, my name is [Your Name], and I’m calling to urge Senator [your senator] to vote YES on Cloture and final passage of the Social Security Fairness Act (HR 82) before the 118th Congress concludes. The House passed H.R. 82 with overwhelming bipartisan support in a 325-75 vote, recognizing the urgent need to repeal the unfair WEP and GPO.
Our retirees have waited long enough for fair treatment and financial security in retirement. Help ensure that our dedicated public servants receive the benefits they’ve earned.
Thank you."
If you have questions or need additional information, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you so much for your help!
