CONGRATULATIONS, FREDDY & OWEN!

Two different people.�Two completely different journeys.�Two very different stages of life.

And yet, somehow, their paths met here at ROC Martial Arts Academy as they stood side-by-side to face the same test, the test for Green Belt Rank.

Isn’t that a little like life?

We all come from different places. We carry different experiences, different struggles, different strengths, and different stories. But every now and then, we find ourselves going through a similar test at the same time.

And when we do, we realize something powerful:

We may be walking different paths, but we don't have to walk them alone.

Freddy and Owen have each worked hard on their own journey to get here. Their accomplishments belong to them individually, but there is something special about seeing two students, from completely different walks of life, encourage one another simply by sharing the experience.

They both earned their GREEN BELT in Kenpo, and we couldn't be more proud!

Green represents growth, perseverance, knowledge, and the willingness to keep moving forward when the journey gets challenging.

Freddy and Owen, you earned this!

Keep learning. Keep growing. Keep showing up.

CONGRATULATIONS, RIVER!

Tonight, River earned his Junior Orange Belt in Kenpo, and we couldn’t be more proud of him!

Our Word of the Month is FOCUS, and River was a GREAT example of what that looks like in action tonight. He stayed determined, stayed focused, and worked through his test with the kind of effort that shows how much he has grown, not just as a martial artist, but as a young person.

Martial Arts is about so much more than learning techniques. It teaches our youth discipline, perseverance, confidence, self-awareness, and the ability to stay focused even when something is challenging.

River, you showed us tonight that when you focus your mind and refuse to give up, you can accomplish great things!

Congratulations Susan!!

Today we celebrate more than a new belt, we celebrate perseverance, determination, and the strength to keep going when the journey gets difficult.

Susan has worked incredibly hard to earn her Green Belt in Kenpo. Along the way, she faced injury and challenges that could have easily become reasons to stop. Instead, she adapted, pushed forward, trusted the process, and kept showing up.

That is what martial arts is truly about.

The belt around your waist represents the techniques you've learned, but the journey behind it represents something even greater: the person you are becoming.

Susan, your journey is a beautiful testament to the power of perseverance. You didn't let setbacks define you, you allowed them to strengthen you.

Congratulations to Caynen on earning your 1st Degree Brown Belt in Kenpo!

What an incredible milestone this is!
Caynen began his martial arts journey with us in our junior belt program before making the transition into the adult classes. That move meant taking on an entirely new level of learning, including incorporating all of the adult curriculum while working through the brown belt ranks. It wasn't easy, but Caynen never backed away from the challenge.

His dedication, consistency, and willingness to put in the work have brought him to this moment.

Recently, his grandfather showed me a picture of Caynen as a young yellow belt. It was a wonderful reminder of just how long this journey has been and how much he has grown, not only in his martial arts skills, but in his confidence, maturity, and character. Sometimes we get so focused on the next goal that we forget to look back and appreciate how far we've come.

Now, a new chapter begins.

With 1st Degree Brown Belt earned, Caynen is officially beginning his Black Belt curriculum. The road ahead will challenge him in new ways, but if his journey so far is any indication, he is more than ready for it.

Congratulations on an excellent test and a well-earned promotion! We are proud of you and excited to watch you take the next steps toward your Black Belt.

This is an important milestone and a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and perseverance you've shown on the mat. Every class, every technique, and every challenge you've worked through has helped build a strong foundation for your martial arts journey.

We're proud of everything you've accomplished so far, and it's exciting to see your enthusiasm as you begin training toward your Junior Orange Belt.

Keep bringing that great attitude, continue working hard, and remember that every step forward makes you stronger, not just as a martial artist, but as a person.

Congratulations to Jordan and Gavin on earning your Yellow Belt in Kenpo!

Every black belt, every instructor, every master, and every grandmaster once stood exactly where you are today, earning that very first belt through hard work, perseverance, and the courage to begin.

This weekend, I had the privilege of celebrating incredible milestones within our Kenpo family. I watched lifelong friends receive prestigious honors, witnessed years and decades of dedication recognized, and celebrated achievements that represent a lifetime of commitment to the art.

But moments like yours remind us of something just as important. The first earned belt is where the journey truly begins.

Yellow Belt isn't "just" a yellow belt. It's the foundation. It's the decision to keep showing up, to keep learning, to overcome challenges, and to become just a little better each time you step on the mat. Every great martial artist has built their success one class, one lesson, and one belt at a time.

Jordan and Gavin, you have trained hard, demonstrated great attitudes, and earned this promotion. We are incredibly proud of both of you and excited to watch where this journey takes you.

Remember, martial arts isn't about rushing to the next belt, it's about becoming the person each belt helps you grow into. Every step matters, and every achievement deserves to be celebrated.

One of the true highlights of the weekend was having the opportunity to stand alongside six legendary Grandmasters whose contributions have helped shape Tracy's Kenpo for generations. I was honored to take this photo with Grandmasters Peter Coyle, Ray Arquilla, Ted Sumner, John Patrick Nieto, Jim Stewart, and Chris Trujillo. (Alice and I jumped in for a photo memory).

Listening to them share stories, experiences, and the rich history of Tracy's Kenpo was an incredible privilege. Moments like these remind us that our art is built not only on techniques, but on the wisdom, friendships, and legacy passed from one generation to the next. I am grateful to be part of preserving and carrying that legacy forward.
