Danville Project Literacy Our trained volunteer tutors teach reading, writing, and math skills to adults who wish to improve th The most recent U.S.

Project Literacy was organized in 1986 by Nancy Jiranek to provide free one-on-one tutoring to adult residents of Danville and the Dan River Region who wish to improve their reading, writing, spelling, and math skills. We are proud members of the Literacy Coalition of South-Central Virginia. The non-profit organization is also dedicated to increasing awareness of literacy issues in the region and throughout the country. Census report states that Danville has an 18% illiteracy rate, meaning that almost 1 in 5 adults do not possess basic literacy skills and are in need of services to help them achieve literacy. We are actively seeking volunteer tutors and students, contact (434) 483-7994.
