Mom-At-Arms, LLC provides fi****ms safety and concealed carry training for everyday people in Danville, Pittsylvania County, and surrounding Virginia communities. Classes focus on responsible gun ownership, Virginia law, situational awareness, and practical safety skills in a welcoming, judgment-free environment. Whether someone has never handled a firearm before or simply wants to better understand their rights and responsibilities, the goal of Mom-At-Arms is to replace uncertainty with knowledge and confidence. Mom-At-Arms was founded on the belief that education should be approachable, respectful, and even a little uplifting. Learning about personal safety does not have to feel intimidating, and students should feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace. The Mom-At-Arms website also hosts a dedicated resource hub for trauma survivors who may be exploring personal safety and empowerment through education. Creating a supportive learning environment for people from all walks of life is central to the mission of Mom-At-Arms. Because confidence starts with understanding.

🇺🇸 Happy 250th Independence Day, America! 🇺🇸

As we celebrate 250 years of American independence, have fun, enjoy the cookouts and fireworks, and keep safety part of the celebration.

Virginia is HOT, y’all. 🥵 Stay cool, drink plenty of water, and keep an eye on children, older family members, and pets for signs that the heat is becoming too much. Don’t forget the SPF!

Remember that fireworks and loud noises during this time of the year can be difficult for veterans, PTSD/trauma survivors, young children, and pets. Be considerate of those around you, give folks a heads-up when you can, and make sure pets are secure before the noise begins.

If you’re heading to a crowded celebration, keep your situational awareness turned on. Know where your children are, identify exits when you arrive, keep your belongings secure, pay attention to what’s happening around you… and if something feels off, don’t ignore it.

Have fun. Stay cool. Stay aware. Look out for one another. And for responsibility’s sake… don’t drink and drive… especially if you’re packing heat. 💁🏻‍♀️

Today, we celebrate the Men-At-Arms in our lives. 💙

The fathers, grandfathers, stepdads, husbands, brothers, mentors, and father figures who quietly shoulder responsibility every day. The men who teach by example, protect without seeking recognition, provide through sacrifice, and help raise the next generation with courage, integrity, and strength. 💪

At Mom-At-Arms, we believe strong families are built by strong communities, and that includes the good men who choose to lead with humility, wisdom, and love.

To every man who stands watch over his family, invests in his children, and answers the call to serve those he loves…

Most people don’t think it will ever happen to them.

That’s not ignorance… it’s human nature.
We build routines. We trust our environments. We believe we’ll have time to react if something ever goes wrong.

But talk to people who’ve lived through real moments of violence or crisis, and you’ll hear the same thing over and over:
“I never thought it would happen to me.”

That’s the gap.
The Second Amendment was never about fear or living on edge. It was about responsibility. It was about making sure that when something does go wrong, you’re not standing there wishing you had prepared differently.

Having the right is one thing. Knowing how to use it responsibly is another.

🟣 Training builds confidence.
🟣 Training builds awareness.
🟣 Training gives you options when seconds matter.

You don’t rise to the occasion in a crisis.
You fall back on your level of preparation.
So don’t wait for the “after.”

2A Tuesday | Firearm Safety

One of the most important safety habits every firearm owner should develop is knowing how to properly clear a firearm.

“Clearing” a firearm means confirming that it is unloaded and safe to handle. This should always be done anytime you pick up a firearm, receive one from another person, or prepare it for storage or cleaning.

For most semi-automatic fi****ms, the basic process is:

1️⃣ Point the firearm in a safe direction.
Always ensure the muzzle is pointed somewhere that would not cause injury or damage if it discharged.

2️⃣ Remove the magazine.
Removing the source of ammunition is the first step in ensuring the firearm cannot load another round.

3️⃣ Lock the action open.
Pull the slide fully to the rear and lock it open so the chamber is visible.

4️⃣ Visually inspect the chamber.
Look directly into the chamber and magazine well to confirm no ammunition is present.
**Bonus points if you have someone else with you to confirm as well!

5️⃣ Physically verify the chamber is empty.
Many instructors recommend also physically checking the chamber to ensure it is clear. This is done by carefully inserting the tip of your pinky finger into the chamber to feel if it is empty.

Remember:
Never assume a firearm is unloaded. Always verify it yourself.

Responsible firearm ownership begins with education, awareness, and consistent safety habits.

Most people think situational awareness means constantly scanning for danger.

It doesn’t.

It simply means not walking through life on autopilot.

Next time you walk into a store, restaurant, or event today, take five seconds and ask yourself:

• Where are the exits?
• Who’s around me?
• What feels normal here… and what doesn’t?
• If something weird happened, where would I go?

No paranoia. No tactical gear required.
