Our 5th grade scientists investigated the question, “Does a seed need soil to grow?” Students made predictions, then placed seeds on damp cotton balls with no soil and observed them over several days to see if they would germinate and grow.

This SOL 5.1 investigation gave students hands-on practice making predictions, recording observations, collecting evidence, and drawing conclusions based on their results.

🏠 Parent/Guardian Activity: Seed Science at Home

Try your own mini seed investigation! Place a few seeds on a damp paper towel or cotton ball and keep them in a safe spot. Before you begin, make a prediction about what will happen. Check the seeds each day, record what you notice, and talk about how your observations provide evidence.

“Do you think a seed needs soil to begin growing? What evidence could we collect to support our answer?”

This Week's Spotlight!

This week, we’re celebrating Mrs. Judy McDonald and Mrs. Ramona Blackwell!

Mrs. McDonald fills her 1st grade classroom with learning, laughter, and those important moments that help our youngest Panthers become confident, curious learners. She’s helping them take big steps toward reaching for the stars!

Ms. Blackwell reminds our Panthers that there’s more than one way to learn and express yourself. Through art, she gives students the freedom to create, imagine, experiment, and make something uniquely their own!

🏠 Parent/Guardian Activity: Make Your Mark!

After listening to The Dot, give your child a piece of paper and invite them to create their own dot-inspired artwork. Encourage them to start with one simple dot and turn it into something creative, a picture, pattern, animal, or design. Remind them that there is no “wrong” way to create!

Our first Title I family event of the school year was a huge success! We welcomed our grandparents and families to our Grandparents’ Patriotic Cookout & Scavenger Hunt as we celebrated the 250th anniversary of the United States!

Families enjoyed delicious hot dogs after completing their fun, interactive state-themed scavenger hunt. Along the way, they visited classroom doors, read interesting facts about different states, searched for clues, and worked together to find and complete their scavenger hunt sheets.

It was a wonderful evening filled with family, learning, teamwork, and patriotism!

A special thank-you to all of our grandparents, families, and staff who helped make our first Title I event of the year so memorable!
