How can we better predict flooding with limited data? That’s the question Arush Shangari ’27 set out to answer in his Advanced Research Capstone class last fall.

Living near the Ipswich River, which only has two monitoring gauges, Arush saw how difficult it was for the local watershed association to track water levels and predict flood threats. His solution? Project IRIS: an AI-powered flood prediction tool that uses real-time, public satellite imagery to send emergency alerts 24 to 72 hours in advance.

Designed to help local governments and rescue teams respond faster, his groundbreaking work was recently featured on Boston.com for its potential to be implemented on a national scale.

St. John's Prep was honored to host NASA Astronaut Dr. Jessica Meir yesterday afternoon for a live Q&A from the International Space Station with Dr. Hardiman, Ms. Wessner, and a group of students and alumni.

While Dr. Meir shared valuable insights about her work, the highlight came when she turned her camera to show us a stunning live view of Earth from space, a truly unforgettable moment for our community.

St. John's is thrilled to invite members of the Prep community to tune in for an out-of-this-world, virtual conversation with NASA astronaut Dr. Jessica Meir on Tuesday, August 11 at 3:30 pm ET as she joins us live from space!

Selected by NASA in 2013, Dr. Meir is a marine biologist, comparative physiologist, and seasoned space traveler. A veteran of Expeditions 61 and 62, she logged 205 days in space and made history participating in the world’s first all-female spacewalks.

Next month, St. John’s Prep will welcome over 260 new High School students to campus for Eagles Wings’ Orientation. But before they step foot onto campus, the Class of 2026 has some advice for our newest cohort of freshmen.
