Has Sage ever appeared to you as a teacher or an ally? I'd love to hear about other's experience with this sacred plant, or about the unique varieties of Sage in your area. 🌸🌿🍃

As the year begins to turn inward, many Salvia species are still flowering or setting fragrant growth now. Autumn sages (Salvina greggii, Salvina microphylla) feed late hummingbirds and pollinators, culinary Sage (Salvina officinalis) is prime for leaf harvest before hard freezes.

While the common garden Sage (Salvia officinalis) thrives in many climates and is wonderful for cooking, teas, and medicine, White Sage (Salvia apiana) holds a different story. It’s native to Southern California and Baja, and sacred to many Indigenous peoples of that region, where it’s been used for generations in ceremony and prayer.

Because of rising demand and commercial smudging products, wild White Sage has been overharvested and in some areas nearly wiped out, which is a reminder that even good intentions can cause harm when we’re disconnected from right relationship.

🍁🍂 If you feel called to sit with Sage this season, find a local or cultivated Sage to work with, and then refer to the 4 reflective prompts I've listed on the final image. Save this post so you can come back to it when Sage is calling you.

Who are some of your best Plant friends? 🙂💬🌱🌸

When I was a little girl visiting my grandmother in the hills of eastern Kentucky, I’d watch her move through the garden every afternoon. She’d finish cooking the midday meal, tie on her apron, and head outside to prune, w**d, and gather what was ready. But what struck me most was that she talked the whole time.

One day I finally asked her, “Granny, who are you talking to?”

She looked at me with a twinkle in her eye and said, in her soft Kentucky drawl, “Well, plants are just like people. They need friends too.”

That simple sentence shaped my whole life. To my young mind, it meant, of course you talk to Plants. Of course you tend them like kin. I thought everyone did that, because my grandmother did. Only later did I realize that not everyone saw it that way.

Her words planted a seed in me, that Plants are sentient, wise beings, and all these years later, I still hear her voice reminding me: plants need friends, too. 🌼🌿💕

If you find yourself talking with Plants, you’re among friends here. Share this post with someone who understands, let’s keep weaving this circle of friendship with the Plants and with one another.

Have you worked with Elder? I would love to hear more about your relationship with them. 🌳🌸🧚🏻✨

There was a time when I felt like my whole life was unraveling. A relationship I thought would last was ending, and the work that had once felt so alive suddenly felt empty. I kept asking myself, Is this it? Is everything just falling apart?

During that time, I found myself going again and again to sit with Elder. I’d tuck myself under her branches, just being quiet, breathing with her. Elder has this way of holding you steady while also whispering truths you don’t really want to hear.

What she showed me was that what I was calling an ending was really a transformation. Just like she lets her flowers fall and her berries ripen, then drop to the ground and seed the next cycle, she reminded me that letting go is part of how new life comes.

It didn’t make the grief go away. But it helped me see that I wasn’t breaking down so much as being broken open. Elder showed me that healing sometimes asks us to shed what no longer fits so that the new skin can grow.

Lady’s Mantle steps forward as a guide in these times, cloaking us in tenderness and reminding us that strength does not come from hardness, but from the courage to care deeply. To work with her is to remember that love is power, and that the Feminine within each of us is the medicine our world is calling for now.

📣💚🍃 Do you have a special experience with Lady's Mantle? I would love to hear about it in the comments.

The most important work we can do in these times is to mend our relationship with Nature. This work is available to all of us, no matter what we do for a living.

You don’t have to change careers or become some sort of "expert." By living with this awareness and love, you are already part of the change.

This is how we create a world where all life can thrive.
