Extension Master Gardener Volunteers work with the NC Cooperative Extension to provide gardeners with unbiased, research based information on gardens, lawns and landscapes. They are trained by Extension Agents in a 40-hour course, followed by volunteer efforts requiring a certain number of working hours and training hours each year. People interested in joining should contact the Extension office

of their county. Stokes Extension can be found at http://stokes.ces.ncsu.edu/. The Stokes Extension Master Gardener Volunteers (SEMGV) group was started in February 2013. Later the 501(c)3 Association, SEMGVA, at the same time other NC County groups formed under the umbrella of the NC EMGV Association's 501(c)3 status. SEMGV Can Help
• identify plants, insects & diseases
• select a plant that will do well in your landscape
• provide research based guidance on plant care
• help you make environmentally responsible decisions about caring for your landscape

N.C. Cooperative Extension partners with communities to deliver education and technology that enrich the lives, land, and economy of North Carolinians. NC State Extension (formerly the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service), established in 1914, was authorized by the Smith-Lever Act and designed as a partnership between the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), North Carolina State University, the land grant university (authorized by the Morrill Acts of 1862 and 1890), and local government. This federal/state/local partnership provides a network of professionals in every county in North Carolina. Since 1979, NC State Extension Master Gardener volunteers have been guiding homeowners in making environmentally sound decisions in their gardens, lawns, and landscapes. NC State Extension Master Gardener volunteers are a crucial part of the N.C. Cooperative Extension mission, partnering “with communities to deliver education and technology that enrich the lives, land, and economy of North Carolinians.” Under the auspices of the N.C. Cooperative Extension, the mission of the Extension Master Gardener program is to learn about issues related to urban horticulture that are unbiased, research-based, practical, and environmentally sound and to educate the community on these issues.

😄 Festival Location and Layout at New Downtown Venue:
The 9am - 6pm festival is in the Arts Block at 500 Main Street, including the Historic Courthouse and the Stokes County Historical Society's Open House exhibits.

😄 The Parade at 10am will leave the Government Center at 1014 Main St. The Marching Bands will join from the Stokes Extension parking lot and Sheep Rock Rd. The parade will end will near the iron furnace in Moratock Park parking area.
🌉Remember Moratock Park by the river is closed on weekends during the bridge construction.

🚌The shuttle buses start at 11am from PARKING at 1014 MAIN ST, the Government Center. 🚏 Look for Shuttle signs for pickup locations.

😁 9am - 6pm Vendor Areas: Check out Artisan Alley for fine crafts, Market Street for repurposed or retail goods, and Stokes Folks for local community organizations. (Like us, the Cooperative Extension, etc) The main stage is behind the Arts Place in that parking lot. There is a Historic Courthouse stage with Open Mic experience from 12-3! Visit the kids area, food trucks and more!!!

🌱 Did you miss yesterday's Ginger Field Day at the N.C. A&T University Farm? You're in luck! Another opportunity to learn the ins and outs of ginger production is coming to Stokes County later this month.
Along with Plum Granny Farm and the Stokes County Extension Center, we are holding another hands-on workshop that includes cutting seed ginger, planting and harvesting. We'll also hear insights into growing ginger from Ray Tuegel of Plum Granny. 💙💛

Be sure to stop by to see your local farmers before it’s too late! Our market season will go through October as long as our farmers have items to sell! Are you seeing these strange webs forming in your trees? Nope, those aren’t spiders, they are actually Fall Webworms. These native pests come back year after year and can be quite destructive. They can pop up on over 100 different tree species and can become prolific in an area. Should you wish to get rid of them, remove the limb from the tree, or poke the nest. 🙌 We are extremely proud of EMG volunteer Catherine Sauer and Savannah Meyers (Extension Agent, Family and Consumer Sciences) with their speeches to the Stokes Commissioners! 🫛🫐🥦 The Pre-K School gardens have been a rewarding project for all, teaching kids about planting seeds & plants, watching & watering them every week up to harvest! 🥬🍅🥒 Then we go and have a special meal using their produce and more with the assistance of Savannah who teaches them about the values of eating vegetables. The kids are excited by the experience and wonder of it all! 🥕🫑🫜

NEWS: 🏫🚸 We are excited about a special presentation to the Stokes Board of Commissioners. EMG volunteer Catherine Sauer will talk about our Pre-K School Gardens! 🫜🥕 This is where we and the teachers help the kids participate in planting, watering, and harvesting vegetables to eat! Each harvest luncheon includes reading a delightful book on eating what you grew, often from 🐰 bunny rabbits' viewpoint. 🥬🍅🥦 The lunch is also coordinated with Savannah Meyers, Extension Agent, Family and Consumer Sciences. 🍽

WE WELCOME YOU TO BE THERE! This is a part of the regular 2:00pm session on MONDAY, AUGUST 24th. The meeting is in the Commissioners Chambers, 2nd Floor, Administrative Building, 1014 Main Street in Danbury. This is in the same parking lot as the (newer) Courthouse, on the extreme right side at the back of the parking lot.
