Getting back into the classroom this year… I’m loving it… I was asked to teach MS at St. Anne School.

Along with some PE and support classes.
Touky the Toucan always said to “Say Yes” to opportunities…. And I took his advice.
I’m so delighted as Pencil and Clock will be part of all classes as writing across the curriculums is the schools focus.
It has always been my focus…
Have a great year to all our students, teachers and parents!

It’s Here… Again. Better Than Before. ✏️🕰️

After countless edits, rewrites, redesigns, and more cups of coffee than I care to admit, I’m excited to announce the newly revised edition of
Pencil and Clock: Pearls for Life.

This isn’t just a reprint. It’s a better book.

Every chapter was polished. Every page was reconsidered. The goal remained the same: to share simple lessons that help students learn how to think, grow, and live well.

I’m proud to say Pencil and Clock is now available in:

📖 Paperback
📱 Kindle
🍎 Apple Books
🛒 Amazon

Whether you’re a student, parent, teacher, or someone who simply enjoys collecting a few pearls of wisdom along the way, I hope you’ll give it a read.

Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me throughout this journey. Your support means more than you know.

Be Brave. Keep Learning.

For Parents

Pencil & Clock – Pearl for Life

Today’s students have more tools than ever—AI, apps, instant answers…

But the most important tools haven’t changed:

Pencil = effort and responsibility
Clock = how your child uses their time

Technology can support learning…
…but it can’t replace work ethic.

Pearl for Life

“Success isn’t downloaded… it’s developed.”

What You Can Do:

Encourage your child to:
• struggle a little
• stay with a task
• manage their time
• take pride in doing their own work

That’s the foundation for everything ahead.

Pencil & Clock – Pearl for Life

Education is evolving fast—AI tools, differentiation, student-centered classrooms…

All powerful.

But beneath every trend, two constants remain:

Pencil = Productive Struggle
Clock = Time on Task

We can design the most engaging lessons in the world…
…but if students aren’t thinking deeply and investing time, learning stays shallow.

Pearl for Life

“Engagement opens the door… effort and time build the house.”

Gentle Reminder:

Let’s embrace innovation—
but continue to protect space for:
• thinking
• writing
• processing
• revising

That’s where learning lives.

Real talk for students here from Mr. L

Shortcuts and AI only succeed if you have built up the good habits first… motivation and tools will only take you so far… it’s the habits that carry you through and past those times when you don’t want to study for a test, complete the project, slideshow or practice your presentation….habits keep you track.

But here’s the truth no one tells you:

There is no shortcut for you.

Pencil = your effort
Clock = your time

You can copy answers…
You can ask AI…
You can rush through work…
but that doesn’t equal understanding.

Pearl for Life

“The more YOU do, the more YOU become.”

Put the phone down.
Pick the pencil up.
Use your time like it matters—because it does.

It always begins with the Pencil….

Every classroom I teach in always has some student reference to the Pencil.

And in time…. They all write their happy story…

Pearl for Life:
All success was once a simple scribble from a pencil.

Happy Monday!!!!

Middle School Math related Pearl for Life:

Remember the x axis (independent variable) typically represents things like time, days, distances, age, height weight .. etc…

but can also be the “axis of change” … every word, choice, behavior can be seen as an action that can help you improve your personal world.

So be the positive change you want to see in your life!!!
