🫵You probably don’t move your spine in this direction enough.
👉Most people move forward and backward all day.
👉Sitting. Standing. Walking. Bending down.
👉But your spine is also designed to move sideways and rotate.
👉This position works on lateral flexion while opening the side of the torso, including the lats, obliques and tissues around the rib cage.
👉Try reaching upward first and then gradually bending sideways.
👉That usually creates a much better stretch than simply collapsing at the waist.
👉You can also take a slow breath into the side of your ribs you’re opening.
👉Your rib cage is designed to expand in multiple directions, not just forward.
👉Working on movement in all directions is one reason I don’t build mobility routines around random isolated stretches.
👉It is important to combine different movement mobility patterns so you work on the body as a whole.
