Back-to-school season is better when we celebrate together.

A new JAMA Network Open study of more than 171,000 patient records (2016–2024) found autism diagnoses among girls rose sharply after 2020, while diagnoses among boys stayed stable or declined. That's encouraging, clinicians may be getting better at recognizing girls who once would have been overlooked.

In the same data, pediatric girls were still diagnosed ~1.5 years later than their male peers.

Routines don't have to be rigid to be helpful.

Predictable routines can help children know what to expect, making everyday transitions feel a little smoother and creating more opportunities for learning and connection.

Start small. Choose one part of your child's day, like getting ready in the morning, mealtime, or bedtime, and keep the same steps in the same order for a week. Small, consistent changes can make a meaningful difference over time.

We were grateful to connect with the autism community at four wonderful events across Texas, California, and Georgia, from conferences and resource fairs to a community swim party.
