Did You Know?

Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in a student's success at school.

But when a student begins missing school regularly, there is often more to the story.

At Dalton Public Schools GA, we want to work with students and families to identify barriers that may be getting in the way of regular attendance and help connect them with the support they need.

Whether the challenge involves transportation, health, family circumstances, or something else, our schools have people ready to help.

Every day matters. Every student matters.

What have we been doing this summer in Student Services to prepare for a new school year in Dalton Public Schools GA?

A big thank you to Cobb County Schools! As we work to improve our student discipline hearing process, their team was gracious enough to welcome us for a visit. We had the opportunity to see their dedicated hearing space, learn more about their processes, and ask lots of questions.

We appreciate their willingness to share their time, experience, and ideas with us. That kind of collaboration between school districts helps all of us get better at serving students and families.

Thank you so much to our friends in Cobb , and best wishes for a great 26-27 school year!

What have we been doing this summer in Student Services to prepare for a new school year in Dalton Public Schools?

We have appreciated the support of Sandy Hook Promise as they partner with Dalton Public Schools GA to strengthen our efforts to keep students safe and supported.

Through this partnership, we are developing our Say Something Anonymous Reporting System, providing students with training to recognize warning signs when a peer may be experiencing a mental health or safety crisis, creating student safety clubs, and much more.

Sandy Hook Promise was founded by family members of victims of the 2012 tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School and provides its programs and resources to schools at no cost.

We are excited about this partnership and look forward to sharing much more information with our students, families, staff, and community soon.

You can read more about this work in the Dalton Daily Citizen.

What have we been doing this summer in Student Services to prepare for a new school year in Dalton Public Schools GA?

A big part of our work has been strengthening partnerships that support our students and families.

Thank you to the Dalton/Whitfield County Family Connection and Resilient Georgia for bringing together Dalton Public Schools, Whitfield County Schools, Whitfield County Juvenile Court, local medical and mental health providers, and other community members to discuss how we can work together to improve student attendance.

It is always great to partner with organizations that are making a difference in the lives of our students and their families. We appreciate the collaboration and shared commitment to helping every student be present, engaged, and successful!

What have we been doing this summer in Student Services to prepare for a new school year Dalton Public Schools GA?

We enjoyed the opportunity to meet with all of our elementary and secondary administrators to review the 2026–2027 Code of Conduct. Our goal is to make sure we are consistent across our schools while creating safe, supportive environments where students can learn, grow, and be successful. We appreciate our administrators and their commitment to making our schools great places for students each day.

A big thank you to all the DPS employees and community members who helped revise our district's Mental Health Protocols to reflect current best practices and better meet the needs of our students.
