Dalton State College has selected two accomplished educators to serve in endowed chair positions that will advance innovation in STEM and help prepare the next generation of teachers through classical education. Asaf Varol (pictured left) has been named the Shaw Industries Chair in STEM, and Cristian R. Aquino-Sterling has been selected as the inaugural Keith & Lynn Whitworth Distinguished Chair in Classical Education.

𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀!!

Former Dalton State Athletics golfer and 2025 Play NAIA National Champion Jack Whaley will play for the U.S. Amateur Championship on Sunday.

The 36-hole championship begins at 8 am CT, with the afternoon 18 airing on NBC and Peacock at 3 pm CT. He has already earned spots in the Masters and the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach next year.

Congratulations to former Dalton State golfer Jack Whaley for advancing to the championship match of the U.S. Amateur Championship after a semifinal victory at Merion Golf Club. Jack now has the opportunity to compete for the prestigious Havemeyer Trophy and a place in golf history. With his finals appearance, he will likely receive an invitation to the Masters Tournament and the U.S. Open, and, if he wins, the Open Championship (British Open). Jack would be the second U.S. Amateur Champion Ben Rickett has coached after Steven Fox won at Cherry Hills in 2012.
From Dalton State to one of amateur golf's biggest stages, we're proud of all Jack has accomplished and will be cheering him on every step of the way.

Dalton State contributed more than $167 million in economic impact on Northwest Georgia — exceeding last year's record-breaking total by nearly 12%. Graduates from the Class of 2025 are poised to earn more than $1.4 million in additional lifetime earnings because of their college degree.

Dalton State’s $167 million impact includes $144.6 million in direct spending by students and the college on personnel and operations and $22.4 million generated through the re-spending of those dollars throughout the region.
