Involve your teen in problem solving
The older your teen gets, the less you should dictate what to do to solve a problem. Instead, engage your student in a problem-solving session. For the best outcome, explain your concern without accusing. "I worry that the time you spend gaming doesn't leave you enough time to finish assignments until very late." Then ask for your teen's ideas. "How do you think you could change your schedule so you can get to bed by 10:30?"
The older teens get, the less parents are able to tell them what to do. Instead, use problem-solving techniques to help your teen figure out what to do.
