The Class of 1981’s 35th reunion was a great success! A BBQ picnic with a live band at the Legion pond was well received. Everyone that attended seemed to enjoy reminiscing with friends and classmates. The day was sunny and hot and the powerful storms that threatened held off until nearly the end. An amazing storm sent our classmates scattering and made for an exciting cleanup. To top off this memorable day, the final tally confirmed that our 35th reunion raised $1800! These funds go to our Class of 1981 Scholarship awarded to a deserving senior student at Wahconah Regional High School on Class Night.
There are lots of people who contributed to our reunion success and it’s past time to thank them all. It all started with a dedicated reunion committee. This year we added several new members and their help was invaluable. A large committee allowed us to tackle the idea of an outside picnic, nearly every aspect of the event required individual attention. It was not just securing the site and selecting a caterer and band. There was addresses and invitations; tents, tarps, tables, chairs and table cloths; decorations and lighting; drinks, appetizers and desserts, and lots of unique raffle items. These last items were all provided for and donated by members of our reunion committee. A giant, heartfelt thank you goes out to Tom Balardini, Dawn Hill Betters, Randy-Lynn Cassidy, Sally Foster Capeless, Bob Fournier, Susan Cummings Gregory, Monica Madison Montferret, Joan Roy, June Roy-Martin, Amy Johnson Simon, and Karen Pinna Tatro. A very special thank you to Amy and Randy for going above and beyond. This committee rocks and it was a blast planning this event with you all.
In addition, we need to express our gratitude to our classmates who donated cash or raffle gifts, purchased raffle tickets and/or attended the reunion. All our profits go to the scholarship fund. The Wahconah Guidance Department selects a good senior student that reflects the Class of 1981 spirit. Thanks to the generosity of our classmates, for the next five years we will be awarding $250 to a “good kid” graduating from Wahconah!
We invite you all to join us in planning our 40th reunion! Comment and feedback below appreciated.
