Are you an Alumni of our Biology program? We are excited to invite you to the first ever Dalton State Biology Alumni BBQ on Thursday, September 17 between 6-8pm (free for all graduates.)

Reconnect with fellow alumni, faculty, and current members of the biology program while enjoying great food and friends on the Dalton State Quad. An optional tour of the updated Sequoyah Hall and Peeples Hall facilities will be available.

For 35 years, Dr. John Lugthart and Gretchen Lugthart have helped shape Dalton State College and the surrounding community in meaningful ways.
From teaching and mentoring student researchers and interns to maintaining the DSC Trails and supporting beloved outreach programs like Creek Critters and Stream Stomp Camp, their combined contributions have left a lasting mark on generations of students and community members.
Thursday, we celebrated their remarkable legacy and thanked them for their years of dedication and service. Congratulations, Dr. Lugthart, on your retirement, and best wishes to both John and Gretchen as they begin this exciting new chapter! 🎉

This summer, three Dalton State Environmental & Sustainability Studies students - Tristan Moore, Mariana Salazar, & Raven Wallin - worked with a crew from the GA Dept. of Natural Resources to assess road culverts for their suitability of fish passage. The data which they collected will be used to prioritize culverts in need of replacement with the ultimate goal of protecting the great diversity of fish, such as the federally threatened Trispot Darter (pictured here), which live in our region's streams and rivers. It was difficult, hot work but they did an outstanding job!

A group of Dalton State students, staff, and faculty spent two fun days kayaking on the Oostanaula River, along with hundreds of others as part of the annual Paddle Georgia event!
