🇳🇬 If you didn’t know, today marks Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day!
One of the ways I celebrate my Nigerian heritage is through my fashion.

A few of my students had A LOT of questions about the fit, so here we go.

The hat: This is called a Fila. No, it’s not a chef’s hat. It’s one of several traditional styles of hats worn by men in West Africa.

The shirt: This is called a Buba. A Buba can be worn on its own or traditionally paired with an Agbada, the flowing outer garment you may have seen in West African formalwear.

The pants: These are just your standard European-style pants. Nothing particularly African about them—they simply complement the black detailing on the Buba.

And of course the shoes: The black-and-blue Dunks. You already know I had to match.

Contemporary West African-inspired with a streetwear finish. 🤌🏾🇳🇬

Happy Independence Day, Nigeria! 🇳🇬💚🤍💚
