DOWEA Daegu Elementary School Daegu Elementary School proudly serves the children of U.S. military-connected families. DOWEA is a field activity of the Office of the Secretary of War.

It is headed by a director who oversees all agency functions from DOWEA headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. DOWEA's schools are divided into three regions; DOWEA Europe; DOWEA Pacific; and DOWEA Americas. Each region is managed by a Director for Student Excellence. Hanbok Day is a special day at Daegu Elementary School as we celebrate Korean culture and tradition in honor of Chuseok, Korea’s harvest festival.

Our students, teachers, and staff are invited to wear hanbok, Korea’s traditional clothing, as we celebrate together! 💚💛

Daegu Elementary School invites parents, teachers, and our Command Team to attend our upcoming School Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting.

Kindergarten Parents — join us for our first Parent Connect: Kindergarten!

Come meet Ms. Wilson, Mrs. Townsend, and Mrs. Alexander and learn some simple ways you can support your kindergartener’s learning at home.

This Parent Connect session will focus on “Partnering for Success,” including questioning strategies for comprehension, ways to make learning fun, and helpful handouts to take home.

Parent Connect is a great opportunity to connect with our Kindergarten team, learn more about what your child is working on in the classroom, and pick up ideas you can use at home.

📸 Fall Picture Days Are Coming!

Dragon Families, mark your calendars! Fall Picture Days at Daegu Elementary School are September 8 and 9!

📷 Picture Ordering
Photo previews and online ordering will be available beginning the day after Picture Day. Families can view their student’s photos, choose from more than 50 background options, and select their preferred packages and add-ons.

The regular ordering window is September 8–30. Late fees may apply to orders placed beginning October 1.

👫 Sibling Photos – Advance Sign-Up Required!

Families who would like sibling photos must reserve a session directly through the photography company’s website. Sibling photo sign-ups will NOT be handled through the school this year.

⏰ Sibling reservations must be completed by September 1, 2026.

Please note: There is a $1.95 reservation fee when scheduling a sibling photo session.

🙋 Volunteers Needed!

Parent University: Library Edition

Kindergarten parents, you’re invited to our upcoming Parent University: Library Edition!

Join Ms. Magoon and Ms. Palmer for a session focused on “Partnering for Literacy Success.” Learn more about how you can support your child’s literacy development and get an introduction to all that the DES Library has to offer!

Topics will include:

The parent’s role in literacy
Modeling reading for comprehension
Introduction to the DES Library

Not a Kindergarten parent? You’re still welcome! While this Parent University is geared toward our Kindergarten families, any DES parent interested in learning more about literacy and our school library is welcome to attend.

Little ones are welcome, too! Parents are welcome to bring infants and toddlers along. We want all of our families to feel comfortable participating.
