SMU paleontologist Michael Polcyn, collaborating with the Perot Museum and the American Museum of Natural History, has officially identified a 43-foot species of mosasaur named Tylosaurus rex.

Discovered in North Texas, the new species shows clear evidence of aggressive apex-predator violence and honors foundational work by 1960s SMU graduate student John Thurmond. Read the story here: https://bit.ly/4e8gYbL

This summer, our Mustangs are in offices, labs and clinics getting real work done. We're spending the next few weeks highlighting a few of them, starting with Elizabeth Olmos '28, a biochemistry major who spent her sophomore year observing surgeries and births at a real OB-GYN practice. First-gen, Pre-med and just getting started!

Congratulations to this year’s honorary degree recipient, Raj Chetty! 🎓
This weekend on the Hilltop, Chetty officially received his honorary degree in recognition of his impact on economics and public policy. His research on economic mobility and opportunity has helped shape important conversations across the country and inspired new ways of thinking about access and success in America.

We’re so proud to welcome him to the Mustang family and recognize this well-deserved honor. 🎓

Meet Catherine Ramsey '24, '26: A double-graduate of SMU who will be walking the stage at SMU a second time this weekend to receive a Master's in Arts Management and MBA.

After receiving her undergraduate degree from SMU in 2024, Catherine knew she wanted to extend her education somewhere that would invest in her both personally and professionally, and she found that experience at SMU. The dual MA/MBA, through Meadows School of the Arts and SMU Cox School of Business, allowed her to combine business, leadership and the arts into one program that has set her up for success for any role she pursues next.

Congratulations, Catherine, and congrats to our other graduating Mustangs!

This Mother's Day, we're celebrating Melissa and Jordan Escher '26, a mom and son graduating from SMU in the same class, at the same time! 🎓

Melissa's father earned his MBA from SMU, and she always wanted to follow him. When Jordan was searching for the right fit at another school, she invited him to the Hilltop. Same major, same classrooms, lunch together three days a week.

This month, they cross the stage one right after the other.

Happy Mother's Day, Melissa, and congratulations to you both!

It’s finals time on the Hilltop—good luck to all our Mustangs. You’ve got this! 📚

Meet Chris Young '26. At 37 years old, he's graduating from SMU with degrees in Economics and Public Policy. His road to the Hilltop ran through Clarksville, Tennessee, poverty, seven years in federal prison on a nonviolent drug conviction and a presidential commutation that gave him a second chance he refuses to waste.

After transferring to SMU, Chris spent three years proving that lived experience is one of the most powerful things you can bring into a classroom. The kind of perspective that doesn't come from a textbook, it comes from surviving, rebuilding and choosing to show up anyway.

Congratulations, Chris, and congrats to our other graduating Mustangs!
