In 2002, the Army Scholarship Foundation awarded its first scholarship.

Today — 25 years later — that single act of support has grown into 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝟐,𝟖𝟎𝟎 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 and nearly $𝟐.𝟗 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 invested in Army children and spouses.

Every number represents a student, a family, and a future made possible through education.

Memorial Day is a time to reflect on 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 it has on their families, communities, and our nation.

After 23 years of service and 6 deployments, the Army is returning 𝐋𝐢𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐌𝐜𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧 to civilian life.

Charles holds a special place in our history — he was the 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 of what is now the Army Scholarship Foundation, then known as the Paladin Foundation.

From that first scholarship to a distinguished military career, his journey reflects the lasting impact of opportunity, service, and commitment.

Today, we 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 over more than two decades.

🎓 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞: 𝐉𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧

Jared Brown, an ASF scholar in 2019, studied 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐚 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 and is now working as a 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 while completing his final year at the 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐚 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐚𝐰.

After graduation, he will join 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐞𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐞 as an intellectual property associate — helping innovators protect ideas that improve lives.

Reflecting on his journey, Jared shares:

He continues to give back through the Veterans Legal Clinic and plans to support the veteran community throughout his career.
