Dallas Community School

Dallas Community School A grassroots, personalized learning school in Dallas supporting nontraditional learners. Weโ€™re creating something new in Dallas, OR.

A place where kids can enjoy the benefits of both homeschooling and guided instruction, all while learning in a safe, comfortable environment that provides customized education and flexibility. In 2013, a group if families created a learning cooperative that would provide a learning community and resources for homeschooled kids. In early 2014, we decided to begin the process of developing this uni

que concept into a free charter school based in Dallas, Oregon. We are now developing a proposal and working on start-up activities. Dallas Community School will open in September 2015 as a free school that provides support, resources, and activities for homeschooled kids around Polk County and beyond.

๐ŸŒบ Dรญa de los Mu***os Celebration! ๐Ÿ’€

Students had the chance to create traditional decorations and sample foods inspired by Ecuadorian traditions!

โœจ Highlights from the celebration:

Cultural Awareness: Students explored the rich history and traditions of Dรญa de los Mu***os, gaining appreciation for global cultural practices.

Hands-On Creativity: Crafts, decorations, and music helped students develop fine motor skills, artistic expression, and teamwork.

Community & Reflection: Students honored and remembered loved ones while connecting cultural traditions to their own communities.

We loved celebrating heritage, creativity, and community together! ๐ŸŽจ๐ŸŒฝ๐ŸŽถ

๐ŸŽƒ Our DCHS Leadership students took part in Halloween Re-Engineered at the Gilbert House Children's Museum !

Their challenge: build a gizmo that delivers candy without human interaction. ๐Ÿฌ They engineered not one but two creations โ€” one that sent candy by bucket using a student self braided rope and pulley system made of bike tires, and another that launched treats through a ยพ-inch PVC pipe at 80 PSI!

These students (and their teacher!) volunteered six hours of their Sunday to bring creativity and joy to local trick-or-treaters. ๐Ÿ’™

At DCS, we Engage, Empower, and Equip students for hands-on, real-world learning โ€” and this project proved just how much community matters. ๐Ÿงก

DCS hosted a table at the Luncheon with three DCHS leadership students and two middle school students who demonstrate compassion, responsibility, and the drive to make a difference.
Engaging students with nonprofits and community leaders empowers them to see themselves as part of the solution.

Our Pumpkins in Watercolor Workshop engaged students in exploring color, creativity, and imagination.

๐Ÿ‚ It also empowered them to express their own artistic voice. The individuality of each student shined through โ€” no two pumpkins were alike!

Size of the Solar System Workshop ๐Ÿช

Our students got a mind-blowing perspective on the scale of our solar system! Hosted by DCHS science teacher Mrs. Mather and her students, we explored the distances between planets using downtown Dallas buildings as our scale.

We even put it in cosmic perspective โ€” the number of galaxies in the universe is projected at 2 trillion! ๐Ÿคฏโœจ
Hands-on learning like this helps students visualize the vastness of space and connect math, science, and real-world scale.

๐ŸŽค Show and Tell Workshop ๐Ÿ’ฌ
So proud of our youngest students for bravely speaking in front of a group โ€” it takes real confidence! ๐Ÿ‘

Big thanks to parent volunteer Jenna Bowen for hosting this engaging workshop and to DCHS junior Kaylin Sass for sharing her Hungry Caterpillar Crochet project. ๐Ÿ›๐Ÿ’š Kaylin modeled public speaking and showed how our high school students can empower and inspire younger learners!

We love opportunities that help students engage, equip, and express themselves with pride.
