Good Evening Families,

This is Dr. Brusie with information for the upcoming week. This week is the end of the first nine weeks of school and Parent Teacher Conferences. Conferences will be held on Thursday, October 15 from 12-7pm. If you haven't already signed up for a conference please reach out to your child's teacher as soon as possible. Friday, October 16 is a student holiday and teacher workday. As a reminder, report cards will no longer be sent home. You will receive notification when they are available to view on Infinite Campus. If you have not yet created an Infinite Campus log in to view report cards, please refer to emails that are sent each Thursday to those not signed up. If you need further assistance, please contact the school office.

The Scholastic Bookfair is back at Costner this week. It looks to be an epic fair, so we hope you will stop by Thursday afternoon during conference. The fair will be open throughout conference hours. Students are able to shop during this week during their media classes. If you would like to volunteer time by assisting students in the bookfair, please contact the school. Also, we recommend that you use the e-wallet option for providing students with money rather than cash if you are able.

Coming up in the next few weeks we will have the 5th grade Science Fair on October 21 and the Fall Festival on October 27. October 28 is a student holiday and teacher professional learning day. Good Evening Families,

This is Dr. Brusie with information for the upcoming week. This Thursday our students in grades 3-5 will be taking the NC Check In Assessment for Reading. This test will assess reading skills attained throughout the first nine weeks and allows teachers to adjust instructional plans for students based on results. We encourage you to make sure your student is present and on time Thursday for this assessment.

Tuesday evening at 6pm the PTO will meet at the school. We hope you are able to join this amazing group of parents to learn more about how you can support our school. Papas Pizza Day will be this Thursday, October 8.

Next week we will dismiss students at 11:30am on Thursday, October 15 for Parent Teacher Conferences. You will have the opportunity to sign up for a conference with your child's teacher on this day. The following day, Friday, is a student holiday and Teacher Workday.

The Scholastic Book Fair will be in town next week, October 12-15. The fair will be open during Conferences.

🔬⚡️Science in action in Mrs. Shires’ 4th grade class!

Our 4th graders officially wrapped up our Forms of Energy unit! Students explored magnetism and static electricity through hands-on investigations and experiments. 🧲⚡️ They made observations, tested their ideas, and explored how forces can cause objects to move or stay intact.
We are so proud of our young scientists and their curiosity, teamwork, and excitement for learning!

Good Evening Costner Families,

This is Dr. Brusie with information for the upcoming week. I would like to thank our amazing PTO for the support they provided to teachers last week by supervising lunch periods so that they could have a free lunch period, and then providing sweet treats Friday afternoon. Your kindness and generosity means a lot to all of us. The PTO will have their monthly meeting next Tuesday, October 6th at 6pm at the school if you would like to participate.

Next Thursday our students in grades 3-5 will take a quarterly reading assessment. This test will assess reading skills gained throughout the first quarter of school and guide teacher instruction moving forward. The book fair will be open the week of October 12. This is also the week of Parent Teacher Conferences, and the book fair will be open that evening so that you can stop by. Conferences will take place Thursday, October 15 from 12:00-7:00pm. Teachers will soon be sending you information to sign up for conference times. School is closed for students on Friday, October 16. The end of the first quarter is Tuesday, October 13th.

Good Evening Costner Families,

This is Dr. Brusie with information for the upcoming week. We will have a Girl Scout representative meet with girls to share information about scouts. Tuesday evening at 6pm a representative will be at the school to speak with you about signing up. This Thursday we will have a photographer on site for Fall pictures. Payment options include pre-pay online through Carolina Photography, pay on picture day with the flyer and payment, or waiting for the proof and ordering online. Directions for payment were shared through Dojo by classroom teachers and are attached. We encourage anyone who wants to participate, to join us on Friday by wearing pink or your favorite Dolly Parton attire in honor of Dolly on 9-2-5 Day!

When our teachers learn, our students win!

Good Evening Costner Families,

This is Dr. Brusie with information for the upcoming week. This Tuesday evening we will host a Title I information night for families. You will have the opportunity to visit classrooms, learn more about Standards Based Grading, how to access your student's grades on Schoology, and pull up report cards on Infinite Campus. Kindergarten families will learn more about the NC ELI assessment, third grade will have information on the Read to Achieve legislation, and fifth grade will have a teacher available to answer questions about the science projects and science fair. At 6:30 we will offer a presentation on our Title I plan for the current school year. The event will take place from 6-7pm.

This Wednesday is a student holiday and mandated teacher work day. School is closed for students and will reopen at 7am Thursday morning.

This is the final week to purchase a class t-shirt from the PTO. The purchase of a shirt is optional, but students will wear them on field trips and field day later in the year. Thank you to our PTO for providing this opportunity for our students. Thank you for all of your support and have a wonderful evening.
