Do you know any kids who are interested in making a MOVIE?! We are going to host a film camp at Zounds Sounds School of Music!

In true Zounds fashion we have some real pros teaching the course.
Ben Hoffman and Lan Freedman are successful directors, who work with The Board of Directors, and they will show your kiddos the ropes.

Our future filmmakers will learn by doing. Doing you ask? Why making a movie! Step-by-step each day Ben and Lan will take the group through the process of creating a film.
Unlike most Zounds sessions this will be an all day event 9:00 to 5:30.
After all, we’re making a movie here.

Here’s an overview of the week:

Day 1: Writing a Script
• Day 1: Introduction to Storytelling and Screenwriting
o What makes a good story? (Elements of narrative: plot, character, setting, theme)
o Introduction to screenwriting format (scene headings, action lines, dialogue)
o Brainstorming and developing story ideas
o Character development exercises
o Outlining the story (beginning, middle, end)
Day 2 & 3: Shooting a Film
• Day 2: Script Development & Pre-Production
o Finish and lock the script.
o Creating a storyboard (visualizing the script)
o Introduction to Filmmaking Equipment and Techniques
▪ Camera basics (types of shots, camera angles, movement)
▪ Lighting basics (three-point lighting, natural vs. artificial light)
▪ Sound recording basics (types of microphones, recording techniques)
▪ Introduction to directing (working with actors, blocking)
o Planning the shoot (shot lists, locations, schedule)
• Day 3: Film Production
o Hands-on practice with cameras, lighting, and sound equipment
o Shooting scenes from the scripts
o Working in small groups, rotating roles (director, cinematographer, sound recordist, actor)
o On-location shooting (if possible)
Day 4 & 5: Editing the Movie
• Day 4: Introduction to Film Editing & Assembly
o Introduction to editing software (e.g., iMovie, Adobe Premiere Pro - depending on age group and equipment)
o Basic editing techniques (cutting, splicing, transitions)
o Assembling the first cut
o Adding music and sound effects
• Day 5: Finalizing the Edit & Export
o Refining the edit
o Adding titles and credits
o Exporting the final film
o Screening of films

The only bummer is this the lone session and there are only 10 spots available. It’s likely to fill up quick, so if you’d like more information or to reserve a spot get in touch with Marc or Amy directly and we will get you hooked up.
