Establishment of a strong preventative maintenance program and proactive planning to meet the evolving needs of the district has saved the district valuable assets. The department analyzes the current and future needs of the district to develop short and long term plans to create and maintain safe, welcoming and efficient facilities. The responsibilities of each team within the department are well defined. Each works together to deliver exceptional service to meet the needs of the children, staff and stakeholders as well as the greater Dallas community. We believe in working with the highest integrity, courtesy and professionalism. The Facilities Director ensures the operating budgets are carefully managed, that all district facilities remain in compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements, encourages energy-saving options for new and existing procedures and manages capital projects. Responsibilities also include, at the direction of the Superintendent, identifying the scope of work for Bond measures, reviewing contracts and proposals, procurement, and managing overall projects and contracts. Awareness to the needs of the "right quantity in the right location" is of great importance. Our engineering staff monitors their assigned facilities and performs routine and preventative maintenance to ensure we get the most out of our systems. Dedicated custodial staff provides the daily and periodic services necessary to keep the facilities safe, clean and inviting for students, staff and guests. In addition, they are responsible for building waste disposal, recycling and building security while on duty. Sensible retention of school assets is accomplished through regular on-site inspections, proper maintenance and conscientious usage of the investments made to facilities, equipment and other resources. The team is supported with strong leadership, positive communication and training. They are encouraged in their respective duties because they know their ideas are valued, their experience is trusted and they are challenged daily to excel. The facilities budget includes funding for services and supplies necessary to support the maintenance and custodial needs as well as utility fees for all buildings and outdoor facilities which includes: district buildings totaling 463,000 square feet and playgrounds, outdoor sports fields and facilities totally 66 acres. In addition the budget funds salaries for; one administrator one district-wide maintenance specialist, one district-wide maintenance/HVAC specialist, five building engineers, 12 custodians, one groundskeeper and one clerical position. Overall, our entire team works together to provide exceptional service to our students, staff and community members that utilize district facilities by maintaining all buildings, grounds, landscapes and outdoor facilities to create an environment conducive to a positive learning experience.

Dallas School District has made the following irrigation adjustments to meet the conditions of the Stage 1 Drought Condition Order by the City of Dallas -- effective July 7, 2021. These changes represent a district wide irrigation reduction of 50%
Irrigation reductions
Dallas High School
· All landscape irrigation
· Practice fields between the gym and tennis courts
Post High Campus
· All landscape irrigation
LaCreole Middle School
· All landscape irrigation
· Soccer/Baseball/Softball fields
· Green space adjacent to the sand volleyball court
Whitworth
· JV practice fields
Oakdale Heights and Lyle
· No landscape irrigation
Additional Information
· Irrigation at the Strader Complex and Lyle ball fields will continue until early August when community activities are scheduled to be completed. Irrigation at these sites will discontinue at that time to begin irrigation on school campuses for school athletics and the new school year.
The school district will return to normal irrigation once the Stage I restrictions are lifted. Additionally, the school district will comply with all requirements of a Stage II order, if activated by the city.
