“A traumatized boy can become a traumatized leader.”

That warning from Praise Fowowe deserves our attention.

The wounds we ignore in boys do not always disappear with age. Sometimes, they grow into the leadership of homes, organizations, communities—and nations.

Fowowe is a Family Systems Engineer, author, researcher and founder of the Institute of Family Engineering and Development. His work challenges us to stop treating family struggles as isolated incidents and start building healthier systems around children.

At The New York Boys & Men Conversation, he reminded us that forming emotionally healthy boys is not only a family responsibility.

It is a nation-building responsibility.

THE BOYS & MEN CONVERSATION IS GAINING MOMENTUM.

During UNGA 81 in New York, Boys Lead Foundation brought leaders, practitioners and voices from different fields together for The New York Boys & Men Conversation.
Not for another conference.

But around a question that deserves far more attention:
What kind of boys and young men are we forming for the future we are building?
We talked about identity and belonging. Mental health. AI and digital life. Migration and opportunity. Leadership. Family. Institutions.

And perhaps most importantly, the environments shaping boys long before society begins asking what went wrong. Something became clear in that room:
This conversation is bigger than one event.
New York was a gathering point.

The work ahead is to connect researchers, families, educators, practitioners, institutions, policymakers and communities around a more serious agenda for boys and young men.

Because the future of boys is not a side conversation.
It is an education conversation.
A development conversation.
A technology conversation.
A mental health conversation.
A family conversation.
An economic conversation.
And ultimately, a nation-building conversation.

Boys Lead Foundation, together with the BEXT Institute for Boys & Men, will continue building the evidence, partnerships, and platforms needed to carry this conversation forward.

New York was a starter. It was a signal, and we are developing the action plan for nations.

The Boys & Men Conversation is gaining momentum.

NORTH TEXAS, THIS IS OUR FINAL DRIVE.

We are working to build the BEXT Center for Boys and Men in Richardson—a permanent place where boys and men can receive mentoring, develop leadership and practical skills, find community, and prepare for life.

This vision cannot be built by one person or one organization. It will take families, businesses, churches, civic leaders, and neighbors who believe that boys and men deserve spaces intentionally designed for their growth.

Today, Boys Lead Foundation was represented at the Fidau prayers for our dear mama Muritala in Lagos, Nigeria.

Our able ambassador for Africa, Mr. Wale Omolade, stood with the family on behalf of the Boys Lead family.

I have been thinking about the speed at which Dallas is growing.

New homes are going up. Companies are moving in. Families are arriving every day. It feels like the whole region is preparing for the future.

But I keep coming back to one question: are we preparing our boys and men for that future too?

That question is behind our plan to open the BEXT Center for Boys and Men in Richardson.

We want a place where boys can come after school, meet good mentors, learn useful skills, receive guidance and grow into responsible young men. We also want men to have access to training, support, community and opportunities to become better mentors, fathers and leaders.

We are raising $100,000 through North Texas Giving Day to help us open and operate the Center for one year.

I am asking my friends, families, churches, businesses and everyone across Dallas–Fort Worth who believes in this work to stand with us.

Today we honour Maryam Muritala, our Canadian Mama of Boys Lead.

From the Social Impact Award in 2023, to Brampton’s historic proclamation in 2025, to the successful hosting of Boypreneur in 2026, she opened doors for our boys. She took us into the office of the Provincial Minister for Multiculturalism and mentioned Boys Lead to the Prime Minister of Canada.

She lived an impactful life. A woman of grace and poise. To her family: please accept our deepest condolences from the Boys Lead Global family. Rest in peace, Mama Maryam. Your light remains with us.

I have seen what happens when we reach boys too late.

I was a correctional officer. I also worked with young people in YOP. Many of the boys I met were not short of intelligence or potential. What they lacked was consistent formation before the system became involved.

That experience never left me.

Some days ago, standing with other nonprofit leaders at WFAA Daybreak for North Texas Giving Day, I kept thinking: Dallas–Fort Worth is building at extraordinary speed—but who is intentionally building the boys who will inherit it?

We cannot keep funding consequences while underfunding formation.

That is why Boys Lead Foundation is building the BEXT Center for Boys and Young Men in Richardson: a permanent place for mentoring, leadership, life skills, technology, entrepreneurship and positive adult guidance.

Our North Texas Giving Day goal is $100,000 to operate the Center for one year.

We are inviting 100 founding supporters to begin with $250. This is not another short-term program. We are building an institution for boys.

The newly released body-camera footage from the Karmelo Anthony case gives the public a closer look at what he said shortly after the fatal encounter.

Karmelo appears emotional and can be heard saying:

“He put his hands on me. I told him not to. He put his hands on me.”

The jury considered this footage alongside witness testimony and the other evidence presented during the trial.

For us at Boys Lead, this moment raises a question bigger than one case:

How do we prepare boys to handle conflict, fear, disrespect and pressure before a few seconds change multiple lives forever?

This is why boys need emotional regulation, conflict-resolution skills, responsible adult guidance and safe spaces where they can learn that walking away is not weakness.

The presence of a weapon can transform an ordinary confrontation into an irreversible tragedy.

One young man lost his life. Another young man lost his freedom. Two families now carry the consequences.

We must reach boys before the courtroom does.

What should parents, schools, coaches and mentors be teaching boys about handling conflict?
