Woodrow stakes a claim as the “Home of High School Broadway Musicals," having started as early as 1943 with its production of Best Foot Forward. Although dramatic plays and operettas filled Woodrow's "Annual Show" spot for some years after 1943; by 1958, Woodrow became one of the first schools to stage a full-scale Broadway-style musical, which was Oklahoma! Woodrow has continued that tradition ev

er since, with an unbroken string of annual musicals longer than any other high school in Texas. Musicals at Woodrow tend to be on a larger scale than is typical for a high-school production, as when 1994's Singin' in the Rain featured an actual water-shower falling on the 127-member cast and stage, a stunt inspired by a national touring production of the show that included a Woodrow alumna. Monkeys flew in 1998's Wizard of Oz, using professional stage flight equipment that was rented from Las Vegas and operated offstage. The 2007's Fiddler on the Roof swept the North Texas Cappie Awards, the high school equivalent of the Tony Awards, winning Best Musical, Best Actor, a Creativity award for the Fiddler, and six other Cappies. Most recently, in 2014 Woodrow presented Funny Girl, which got 8 nominations and won Best Actress and Best Male Ensemble Member. In 2015, Woodrow presented Annie, which garnered Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor nominations. The Phantom of the Opera amazed theater attendees with a falling chandelier, gun shots, a Phantom victim hanging from the stage, gorgeous period costumes, and soaring voices. Seussical, a light-hearted popular musical starring the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, and many more of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters lit up the stage with amazing backdrops, props, and gorgeous voices. In 2019 Into the Woods hit the stage with intricate music, costumes, sets, and a cast that dazzled. In 2020 the covid pandemic hit and the stage lights fell dark for Mamma Mia!, but the show went on! Students and staff produced a virtual production that has been seen around the world! One year later we are thrilled to bring the beloved Woodrow musical program safely home to the historic Woodrow stage with Chicago, A Musical R***e!

♥️Woodrow Wilson’s production of 9 to 5: The Musical earned Outstanding scores in every category from our visiting judges for the 15th Annual Broadway Dallas High School Musical Theatre Awards — Production, Direction, Choreography, Music Direction, Orchestra, Scenic, Lighting, Costume, Sound, Crew, and Ensemble. ⭐

🎉We are so proud of our UIL One Act Play Ensemble & their performance at UIL Zone competition today at Adamson HS, where they competed against five programs in our UIL Zone.

In addition to moving on to District🎉, our ensemble secured the following awards:
