Here is a closer look at one of the posters that was presented at SPUR this past Friday, by Maira Kashif, Shriya Angara, and Ariana Barreto:
This study investigated how children learn new words from context by examining alpha activity before a new word, which reflects prediction, and theta activity after the word, which supports encoding and learning. We found that children with stronger prediction patterns, particularly a V-shaped pattern of alpha desynchronization, as well as children with stronger working memory, tended to learn new words better, suggesting that prediction and working memory help support word learning.
