ARTS MAGNET 50 | LEGACY IN MOTION

The first stop in our Arts Magnet 50 Signature Series is here—and we’re bringing our alumni home.

Join us Thursday, September 3, from 7–9 p.m. in the Hudson Gallery for our Alumni Gallery Show, celebrating the incredible artists who began their journeys at Booker T. Washington.

This one-night-only event is a chance to showcase some of the great talent that began here, reconnect, celebrate memories, and honor the legacy we continue to build together.

Alumni, alumni families, and the Booker T. community are invited. One night. One community. A legacy in motion.

We invite the Dallas community to join us in celebrating our school's 50th anniversary as the Artc Magnet during the 2026–2027 school year.

Guided by this year's motto, Legacy in Motion, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts will honor the past 50 years while celebrating the future of artistic excellence.

This year-long celebration includes five signature events—one hosted by each conservatory—culminating in a final celebration the first weekend of March 2027.

Please welcome Cristian Medrano. He will be teaching Algebra II / Advanced Algebra II. Mr. Medrano earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from The University of Texas at Dallas. He currently teaches Algebra II at Booker T. Washington High School, where he draws on his engineering background to help students strengthen their problem-solving skills and discover the real-world applications of mathematics.

Please welcome Kesha Calicutt. She will be facilitating Inclusion Support.

Kesha is a dedicated educator with extensive experience in both classroom teaching and campus leadership. She is passionate about creating environments where students feel supported and inspired. In addition to her work in the classroom, Kesha is a globally engaged advocate. She serves on the National Board of Directors for the Obesity Action Coalition and contributes her voice to The Educator Collective. Her efforts have allowed her to participate in global discussions on advocacy, inclusion, and health equity. When she isn't teaching or advocating, Kesha enjoys karaoke, spending time with her family, and immersing herself in "The Apothecary Diaries."

Please welcome Katie Stramaglia-Bulatovic. She will be teaching Biology / Anatomy & Physiology.

"I’m a Chicago-area native who has called DFW home for the past 20 years. I love traveling, staying active, cooking, painting, fashion, and teaching! And yes—I really do love my job! My husband and I travel to Europe every year to visit family, and exploring the world is one of my favorite things. I’ve visited countries throughout Europe, the Caribbean, and Mexico, with Japan next in 2027! I’m a proud mom of two grown kids—my daughter is also a teacher, and my son is an electrician. Something You Might Not Know… I’m extremely Type A and organized (I love a good system!), and I graduated from college at 38 years old. My path wasn’t traditional, and that’s something I’m proud of. It’s never too late to go after what you want."
