Today, we honor the life and legacy of Juanita J. Craft, a trailblazer in Dallas history whose impact continues to shape our community.💙

Born on February 9, 1902, Craft established more than 180 rural NAACP chapters; became the first black woman in Dallas County to vote in a public election; and served as the Dallas NAACP membership chairwoman, youth organizer, and the Texas NAACP field organizer.

Craft lived in her South Dallas home for 50 years — a space that became a powerful hub for the civil rights movement, visited by leaders like Lyndon B. Johnson and Martin Luther King Jr. to discuss the future of social justice.

Now, the Juanita J. Craft Civil Rights House & Museum, the home serves as an educational landmark preserving her legacy and inspiring future generations.
