Prenatal Breastfeeding Promotion Project

help prevent childhood obesity. Participating practices will be provided with extensive training, a plan for implementation of the counseling practices into the flow of their patient care, consolidated lists of community support resources for their area to give to patients, including lactation consultants, breastfeeding mother support groups, breastfeeding friendly businesses, and community programs. The practices will provide a list of supportive pediatricians educated in breastfeeding medicine in their area and encourage patients to schedule a prenatal meet and greet visit, thereby prenatally establishing the connection to medical homes for their newborns and ensuring that they will have expert breastfeeding support. This program launched in 2012 with an expert interdisciplinary team of pediatricians, lactation consultants and public health interns, and has been implemented with success in 3 pilot sites. We expanded to 3 additional clinic sites Spring 2014 and are always looking for partner OB and Pediatric practices to join.
