Well, we've made it through week 1 of online-only classes. We in the Media Center have only worked through a few call from folks needing help accessing their classes. That means the average DTS student is pretty tech-savy and able to work through any roadblocks to getting online. Or, some of you just gave up and went back to whatever you were doing before class-time rolled around.
Let’s hope it was #1.
If you DO run into any problems remember you can call the Help Desk (214-887-5285) and leave a message. (The phone is being monitored during our normal operation hours.) One of the helpful Media Assistants will call you back and get you going.

Hey you! Creative types!
The Media Center occasionally gets requests from someone needing creative work. (Video/audio editing, graphic design, logo design, paper editing, website creation/maintenance) We want to build a ‘database’ of folks we can use for referrals when we get these requests.
If you have mad creative skills and would like to offer your services, send us your information.
This can be paid or free work. (Remember, your client list is going to be primarily seminary students. If you will only work for high-end industry standard rates, this may not be the offer for you.) This is a good way to work on portfolio building.
Samples of your work and your rate(s) would be helpful.

We just had a student come in with a USB flash drive that didn't want to show up when it was plugged in. Diagnosis: It's dead, Jim!
He lost several weeks' worth of work. Learn from his mistake!
USB flash drives fail. They have become something we all depend on and they're GREAT, until they fail and then everything is lost.
Please folks, have multiple backups of any files you would hate to lose. EVERY storage device is going to fail eventually. Your ONLY protection is to have multiple backups, stored in more than 1 location
After all the assignments and final exams are completed, we at the Media Center hope that you have a safe and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Speaking of safe, here is a playlist that will help you take some basic steps to improve your Internet security.

If you are using Norton Antivirus or Symantec Antivirus, there is a serious security flaw that allows a hacker root access to your computer. This spans across all platforms (PC, Mac, Linux), and you don't even have to open the email. Please install the latest patches when they become available. Due to some traitorous mathematical error, we realized the maintenance cost for our new printers is a little higher than expected. Therefore, we have adjusted the pricing accordingly. So I now introduce our still-low-compared-to-the-competition-and-still-lower-than-the-original-media-center prices. That’s 50% LOWER for B&W and up to 60% LOWER for color! Thank you for understanding, and enjoy your summer (courses)!
